It was probably a lawyer or a therapist
Nobody held a gun to my head, but being the schmuck that I am,

that principle can be applied to lots of things

I play the guitar and have 2 Gibson Les Pauls and they cost alot of money. Are they really THAT much better than some other guitars  ...... I doubt it. But they are the guitars by reputation and quality....so I paid the money....because I wanted to....and Im lucky because I could

Look at wal mart. No unions much lower prices and they are cut throat some people refuse to shop there. Others dont care. If you dont want to pay it, dont pay it.

Ok now that I have your attention and possibly p*** some of you off the fact of the matter (and the apparent gist of ABF's initial post) is the cost of attending a Buffett concert is simply outrageous!!!! When ticket prices more that double in one year for some areas SOMETHING HAS GOT TO GIVE. Geez he's always thanking us parrotheads that gave him his sumer job for 30 years. Wow what a way to thank us - select venues to play at where ticket prices are so outrageous we can't even attend a show. People realize some of us are being f*cked royally this year. Hell the ticket prices I saw for Philly are more than what I paid for the freaking hotel for Nissan last year. For years I've said that if I attend but one concert a year it's going to be Buffett. Well I'm now looking into other performers because Buffett obviously dosn't give a rat's ass about the "little man" that helped put him where he is today.

CONNIE, CONNIE, CONNIE!!!!

WILL YOU MARRY ME?????

OOOPS!

HOW ABOUT JUST ADOPTING ME INSTEAD? Mom!

TICKET PRICES ARE WAY TOO RIDICULOUS, ESPECIALLY AT THE STADIUM. ALTHOUGH I LOVE MY CHICAGO CUBS, WRIGLEY FIELD, AND MORE APPROPRIATELY, THE TRIBUNE COMPANY, HAVE NEVER *EVER* GIVEN A DAMN ABOUT THE FANS, AND I'M SURE THEY'VE GOT A HAND IN THESE ASSININE TICKET PRICES, HOWEVER, JIMMY DOES NEED TO HAVE A BIT MORE COMPASSION TOWARDS HIS FANS. WE'RE NOT ALL AS RICH AS HE IS-WE'RE JUST A BUNCH OF AVERAGE PEOPLE WORKING FOR A LIVING WHO HAPPEN TO ENJOY HIS MUSIC AND LOOK FORWARD TO ESCAPING TO THE CONCERTS EVERY YEAR TO FORGET ABOUT THE EVERY DAY CRAP FOR A COUPLE HOURS. I'M NOT ABOUT TO GO TELL SOME SINGLE MOTHER SOMEWHERE OR A GUY (OR WOMAN) WORKING TWO JOBS TO KEEP THEIR HEADS ABOVE WATER THAT $130.00 IS A REASONABLE PRICE, PLUS THE G.D. "CONVENIENCE" CHARGES, NOT TO MENTION THE LACK OF PARKING AT WRIGLEY. AND THEN THEY WANT TO SAY NO TAILGATING???? "COME GIVE US ALL YOUR MONEY, YOU HARD WORKING LEMMINGS, AND DON'T HAVE ANY FUN WHILE YOU'RE HERE. JUST GIVE US YOUR MONEY, LISTEN TO THE CONCERT, AND GO THE HELL HOME."
MOSES, SMELL THE F'ING ROSES!

BEFORE EVERYONE STARTS JUMPING ON ME-YES, I AM GOING TO THE CONCERT IN HAWAII, BECAUSE a)THE PRICES AT THAT VENUE ARE STILL SOMEWHAT REASONABLE, AND b)IN ADDITION TO THE CONCERT, THIS IS MORE OF A TRIP "HOME" FOR ME THAN ANYTHING ELSE.
I REALIZE *EVERYTHING* COSTS MORE THESE DAYS-NOT ONLY GAS, BUT THE PRICES OF CARS THEMSELVES! I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY NOBODY COMPLAINS ABOUT THAT! CARS THESE DAYS HAVE PRICED THEMSELVES RIGHT OUT OF THE MARKET. THERE IS NO REASON FOR ANY CAR TO COST $40,000.00. I DON'T CARE WHAT FEATURES IT HAS, NOR DO I CARE IF THE DAMN THING WIPES YOUR A$$ AND BLOWS YOUR NOSE!!!!!!
AND THERE IS NO REASON FOR CONCERT TICKETS TO COST $130.00 AND BARELY BE ABLE TO SEE THE GUY FROM YOUR SEAT.
BUT-LEMMING THAT I AM, I'M SURE I'LL GO TO ONE OF THE WRIGLEY CONCERTS, BUT DAMN THEM TO HELL IF THEY THINK I'M NOT GOING TO HAVE A GOOD TIME. I'M GOING NOT ONLY BECAUSE I ENJOY HIS MUSIC AND THE COMPANY OF OTHER PARROTHEADS, BUT I'M GOING SIMPLY BECAUSE I'M LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO. I WISH THAT WERE THE CASE FOR EVERYONE WHO'S SUPPORTED JIMMY OVER THE YEARS AND DESERVES TO GO. ALL I CAN DO IS SHAKE MY HEAD AND WISH THEY WERE ABLE TO GO, AND MAYBE TOAST THEM A FEW TIMES WHEN I PAY $8.00 TO DRINK A BEER OUT OF A G.D. MAYONAISE JAR!

What amazes me most about this thread is that it has basically nothing to do with thanking Jimmy. After the BN mention at Phoenix some assume and hope that Jimmy actually takes time to read this site; if this thread is an example, I hope he doesn't. It's pretty sad stuff on many accounts.

If Jimmy were reading this, some of his thoughts might be...

"Is this what I inspire in people?"

"Is this what these people are really all about?"

And finally...

"Maybe it is time to retire."

or maybe he'll rethink next year's tour and how his decision of venues to play affects the average family who plan on his coming to their area once a year so they can escape the hum drum of their everyday existance that couldn't make this years tour because the price of tickets was way beyond their reach. The people that actually have to budget not only for 1 concert a year, and that choose a Buffett concert to be that concert, but also have to budget to buy the latest cd. BUT they always do because of their love for the man and his music.

I'm not trying to get into a p*** contest here, but every show still sells out so I would respectfully suggest your opinion is the minority on this one.
and that's fine I can accept that - but his concerts were also selling out 10 years ago when the prices were lower. Too bad those of us that don't make high dollar salaries don't matter anywhere anymore.
Hi Connie,

I just want to point out that prices and WAGES were lower 10 years ago. I assume you would not stick with your job if you were paid 1995 wages. So, there are really two factors that are driving the cost of tickets; 1-Todays economy and 2-the law of supply and demand. If we all didn't enjoy his performances so damn much the ticket prices would adjust accordingly as would the price of his CD's, T-shirts, etc.
He's simply selling his product at the current market rate and some just can't afford it. It's unfortunate but true.

I am making appx what I made 10 years ago. Only a couple of dollars more an hour. The market in my area has been so tight for the past 5 years you don't dare quit your job unless you have a job to go to. And I'm sorry but your supply and demand thery dosn't justify a increase of appx 25% in a bigger venue - maybe 5% but not 25% more
I understand there are areas in the country, like yours, that haven't kept pace with the rest of the country. My heart goes out to you and the other people like you that are in those areas and situations. I wish there was more we could do to get the politicians out of office that are dividing our great country, but that's a whole other topic!

I think the supply and demand theory does apply. Jimmy is a pretty shrewd businessman and I am sure he will adjust the prices (up or down) as the market demands Even the majority of people here (60% as of this writing) at BN feel they are getting their monies worth: http://www.buffettnews.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=34845

I even voted that I was getting my money's worth - this poll is not scientific by any means. Create a poll to ask if the prices of tickets is getting outrageous not only for Buffett but for a lot other performers. As you can tell by the responses today there is a segment of people here on BN that feels the same as I do.

I might be a little late here and not read back through all the pages ...

but most private schools here are run by Catholic Church and you hear more of the priests getting arrested than you do public school teachers - I dont believe that public schools are any different to private schools.

They are all run by humans - and with that - how do you know who is what? It is unfortunately part of life these days :(

After reading all of these comments, I just have to add my two cents. Why does everybody believe that Jimmy owes anyone in any particular city a concert. He is certainly entitled to play as many or as few shows as he wishes and to play them where he wants to play them. Since Jimmy has pretty openly expressed his wish to play Wrigley Field in the past, why can't everyone just accept his decision and move on. Nobody is forcing you to buy tickets or to spend money you don't have. It's only a concert and the world won't end if you miss it.

It matters not to me if Jimmy it truly be,
For here amongst my Phriends I have made a Phamily,
These people are a kind that are really such a find,
For they accept without knowing, give without asking,
Pray from the heart whether two worlds apart,
They cover the globe in their love and good cheer,
And, It's all because Jimmy Buffett was here!

Several teachers in public schools have been arrested for having sex with one or more students at least two that I can recall in the last month or so.

How would you feel if it was your keet? So much for the claims it is not happening.

No one said all teachers were molestors...at least anywhere that I saw.

If America's education program is so strong then please feel free to explain why America regurly finishes less than first.......

I AM NOT blaming the teachers or educators. It is a calling to a job much like there is a calling for a fireman or policeman to be a public servant. They are not into it for the money. The dedicated ones that are effective are dedicated to the job.

I know quite a few teachers and educators....they are people as we all know and people are human and do commit mistakes.......

As to the WHY people think JB owes them something .well that is up to them.

As to WHY the ticket prices are being discussed here...well it is a Jimmy Buffett Forum where one should not be surprised to find Jimmy Buffett and his concerts and pricing are being discussed.

If someone wants to pay $1500.00 or more for a front row seat or whatever.to the people that have a hard time coming up with the $100.00 or whatever to make one show....well it is up the person to decide and that does not change the being of one's phan's status.

The thing is some people DO FEEL that the ticket prices have gotten out of hand. So what if you enjoy paying out that kind of money. We are glad that you can do it. Not everyone can. And I am quite sure that if I had the kind of money that made that money look like chump change, I would not ever pay $1500.00 to see anyone let alone the price of some of the other seating. My choice to make as it is MY money to spend!

I really don't think JB would go for that sort of spending either. At least the JB from the earlier days before he went corporate! That is IMNSHO!
I KNOW that me and a few friends could have just as good of a time for several weekends with everyone pitching in complete with grills and beverages and NOT have a long drive and traffic or lines to the bathroom and never have to miss a song!
People could have one or two a month and no doubt save money and have a better time and safer time because less time in traffic and being on the road!!

Ok, I will make one more comment. Yes I can afford the 130 dollars a ticket. The price of the ticket does not matter one bit to me. I have never spent that much money on ONE single ticket per a concert, why should I change my ways now. I think us smart people are smart enough to realize, that all Jimmy wants to do is take our money and run. Think about it--putting out some stupid novel that costs 30 dollars....... then doing a tour and charging people 100+ per a ticket. Sorry Jimmy, I have given you enough of my money already. I will listen to your shows from wrigley on Radio Margaritaville, on my speakers OUTSIDE. I will have a good amount of friends over, along with all of our kids ( yeap---at least 15 people at my place (your losing 1500+ from all of us) where we can tailgate all day long, cook out, and be able to go take a leak and not have to wait 20 minutes in line) Maybe Im just old, or maybe im getting smarted with old age.

Doesn't seem like you're getting any SMARTED with old age. I'm sure Jimmy will miss you at the show too. I wish more people like you would miss the shows it would make it easier for me to get my hundred dollar tickets and get rid of those people who complain the whole time while standing in line for a beer. So thank you Mr. concert goer complainer. :pirate:

If you don't want to spend $30 on the book, check it out at the library.
If you don't want to spend $130 for a seat at a concert, don't spend the money.
Complaining about it won't do any good.

I agree, don't buy the book, don't pay the ticket prices, stay home and listen to it free on RM. It's Jimmy's loss. But, if you love your kids like it seems you do and if you are home schooling them, PLEASE, do them a favor and get a little more educated. You owe them that much.
