Why Wrigley
Been long time fan. Seen every show at World Music Theater/Tweeter Center. Why Wrigley? Am so very very very disappointed! Doesn't make any sense

WTF is your deal? Ever go to Popular? Alpine in my opinion sucks, you cannot any thing in the lawn but echos. After that experience we only get seats so we can actually hear the music. Put your Nikes on and walk yourself.

Re: Why Wrigley
Why not Wrigley? I may be in the minority here but I have seen Jimmy at Alpine and Tinley more times than I can count. I certainly won't say it has become stale, but I'm looking for a change of pace. Seeing Jimmy at one of the most historic stadiums in the country will be a treat for me. Sure, there is no tailgating but I'm certain I'll be able to find my share of alcohol for sale. All my parrothead friends will be there, and Jimmy will still be singing to me. I gotta be honest I'd drive 400 miles and pay to see him sing in just about any arena, ampitheatre, bar, shower, or outhouse. As long as he's still playin' and not retired, I'm a happy camper.Dr. Smalls wrote:Been long time fan. Seen every show at World Music Theater/Tweeter Center. Why Wrigley? Why Not? Well, maybe I could suggest to some who are planning to travel to our fair city to view this spactacle, from Alabama or wherever, I would do a little research and just try to think about this objectively before you plop your 130 down. Especially those who have never been to the area.A1A BOUND wrote:WHY NOT?
Jimmy at Wrigley!!! Combining a great american songwriter with a truly classical historic landmark. (I have season Cubs tickets, it really is a special place that fits the description: Frat house meets Disney World.)
But let's put all the hype aside and think about this for a second. First off, you've got about 60,000 ticketholders that are going to be there. In addition, you've got about 10, 000 who are just there all the time no matter what. Next I'd say you're going to have upwards of 20,000 or more that are going to be there with no intention of going inside. (Unless the tribune corporation has found a way to keep the sound inside the stadium, you're going to hear the concert loud and clear outside just as well.)
So you're going to have all these people within a two block radius. You can forget going to any of the bars. Their capacity will be met early in the day, and if you do get in, prepare to stand like a mummy while people jam their way past you spilling your $6 12oz. can of miller lite. Hope you don't have to go to the bathroom.
Don't think about walking around anywhere with beers. $375 open container ticket. Got one of those myself once.
You're going to end up either walking a few miles or waiting a hellluvva long time to take the subway. There will be no taxis or such.
At buffett concerts at the usual ampitheaters which are out in cornfields, you're usually in a fairly like minded crowd. There will be a lot of parrotheads, but don't think everybody's there to be phriendly at Wrigley. I'm betting on quite a few brawls and the sight of police in riot gear. They take no chances.
Given the crowd that will be in that two or three block radius, capacity limits of the bars and the fact that you can't bring your own, I wouldn't be surprised if it were very hard to get your hands on a $6 12 oz. can of beer. (They take em right from the case and say, "$6". No ceremony or anything) You might be in for a dry show, unintentionally.
Now, how do I say this, to me, Jimmy is more than just 1 man, IE.. Jimmy. Jimmy is a state of mind. Jimmy is an experience and is an experience, to me, which cannot possibly be further away than a dirty, jam packed city block filled with people who could care less about Jimmy at a concert put on by a corporation whose mission statement is to take things that people love and exploit them to the farthest extremity they can to line their pockets.
I was looking forward to taking the kids to their first Jimmy concert, but damn, I cant see taking them anywhere near that riot zone waiting to happen.
Good luck to all those going, wear comfortable shoes and stock up on patience, you're going to need em. Looking forward to the post concert experince posts.

Seems to me that Jimmy's looking for some variety and new experiences. He's talked about how much he loved doing the Fenway shows last year, and as Wrigley has decided to try concerts he's the natural choice: big baseball fan, Cubs fan, draws a more moderate crowd, will support high ticket prices, etc.

AMEN Brother--least im not the only one who knows this. The cubs said they would sell 39,500 tickets per a show. Plus you must also remember the tickets they are giving away to the neighborhood, and all the tickets that are given to the radio stations. There is no room to move in Wrigleyville... Just go there for a cubs game and you will understand---and you can just imagine a couple more thousand people in the mix---plus all the people who dont have tickets tryin to get a ticket... it is just one big clusterF if you ask meViking22 wrote:Why Not? Well, which is better ? a place like Wrigley where there will at least be more seats available - or a smaller venue where you might not have a shot at a seat at all ? Since there is no way for true fans to get tickets ahead of the casual fan, then bigger venues means more chances to actually get to go.... Face it, Jimmys popularity has grown faster than the venue options or ticket procedures....
