Vines ?

I'm a dope to this kind of stuff ... how does the vine work? ... do you need an established set of recordings to get started? ... i've tried to use total recorder a couple times, but w/dial up could never get through an entire show w/out a drop or buffer

this seems like a pretty cool idea, but i'm dopey

any help?
