Lack of Saturday Shows

Post by Gypsy In The Palace »

I really hate to start another negative thread, but this is at least one topic that I have not seen addressed in any other threads.

First off, I am thrilled that at 58, Jimmy is still touring. I have seen at least two shows per year every year since 1999, and I look forward to those 2-3 days about as much as any other day of the year. And, the closest that Jimmy ever comes to me is about 200 miles away. But, that's okay; I'm willing to travel. I have traveled all over the country to see Jimmy. I don't care where it's at, and I don't care what venue he's playing. If Jimmy is playing somewhere that I can get to and I can afford it, I try to be there. Obviously, there are some venues that I like better than others, but if he was playing at the garbage dump, I would do everything I could to get there.

Now, I am looking at the possibility of not making a single show this year. And, it's got nothing to do with the fact that he's not playing Alpine or not playing Camden or even the inflated ticket prices. It has to do with the fact that there are hardly any Saturday shows this year. The majority of the scheduled shows are on weeknights or on Sunday nights, making it virtually impossible to travel. And, my vacation time this year is very limited.

And, I've tried too. I spent a couple of hours this afternoon looking to see if there were any red eye flights for several of the shows that could get me back home in time for at least a half a day's work the next day. And, it's hard to come by.

I just don't understand what the deal is here. I know that Jimmy doesn't control everything. But, his fans are known for traveling from all around for his shows. I would think he would at least try to make it easy for us and give us some Saturday shows to make the travel situation easier.

Right now, the only Saturday shows are in Philadelphia and Chicago. I have plans for Labor Day weekend, and the Philadelphia show comes on what would be a very poor weekend for me to be traveing, but if it comes down to it, I may wind up pulling that one off.

In the meantime, I am gonna hope beyond hope that some more dates are announced and that these dates include some Saturday shows. Otherwise, this year's shows are gonna be made up of nothing but local fans and people who unlike me have plenty of vacation time.

I too am not complaining.... as I appreciate every show I can see live and hear on RM.

But we were looking for a summer Saturday show to plan a pool party around now that I have my new USB transmitter gizmo... I hadnt realized it but our only option in the Philly show! And thats way off in August!

Tonight is another choice, but with it being a west coast show.... its not as convenient here in Florida.

I am sure scheduling a tour is a huge undertaking.... I just wonder where the Saturdays went... :(

I just hope that he's not trying to ease all of us into accepting this as part of his "early" retirement. Somehow I think that would be the start of it, by giving up his "working" on weekends.

Surely not! :o

I went to the airport this morning...and they said the overnight package that Jimmy sent containing tickets, hotel reservations and plane tickets was stuck in some traffic jam in East Jabru and would arrive too late for me to make the show!

Actually I think there may be a very simple explanation and one that also works for the smaller number of dates also. I imagine that one of the sacrifices he has had to make to accomodate the other musicians in his band, and their other projects, is to somewhat work his schedule around theirs. Most of the band is surely thinking about life beyond the CRB and what they want to do with their careers.

Now I have not gone to the websites and checked their schedules, but it seems to me a logical sacrifice Jimmy would have to make to keep the band together.

Just a thought.

I was thinking that the scheduling conflict may have been caused by all the stadium shows, because most ball clubs will have Saturday games already scheduled. And then maybe for consitancy's (sp?) sake they are keeping with the weekday schedules...

Except that of course a friday or saturday or sunday wouldn't make much difference in a stadium as the team would be home all weekend. now of course that doesnt explain the non-stadium weekends...

Lack of Saturday shows

Post by Phinsup2! »

I guess I haven't really paid that much attention to the lack of Saturday shows. I have been catching the Thursday shows at Tinley Park anyway, and I too am happy as a clam that he is still touring, but for various reasons it doesn't look as if I am going to make a show this season. That is a complete and devastating source of depression for me, so I am praying to the "Bubba Tour Gods" that this is not the last year as some people have brought out as a possibility. One thing I have found odd, though is the lack of any dates in May or July. Pehaps something to do with the movie "Hoot". I am still considering the Indianapolis show, but tickets will have to be bought through a broker, and that can be complete torture.
Wrinkles only go where smiles have been.
What infinite wisdom...Thank you Jimmy!!!
