stay away if your a newbie

Post by ocracoker »

i wish i had stayed away the more i look at the discussions on this web
the more i realize it's obvious that there is a group on here that think since they have been on board for whatever time they have, we newbies are not worthy. love the news you get here but think i will leave the chats
to the old timers

You are more than welcome here, don't be discouraged by those "holier than thou" fans. I guess they forgot they were all "newbies" once too. I think people also tend to forget that some fans are just "newbies" to this board and that they're not new fans to Jimmy Buffett at all.

Can't say I blame you based o the current threads. However, this seems to be a unique time. BN is usually a welcoming, gracious place to catch up on Buffett and talk to friends. I think everyone is a little tightly wound due to some changes on tour this year. Stick with us. It will be worth it for you.

Welcome to BN. We're happy to have you on board.

Sorry you feel that way ocracoke. Not everyone feels that way about newbies - we were all new at one time. We're just getting an onslaught of them, and many are bringing up the same topics over and over.

Obviously, it is possible to break through the initial hurdles, and find a comfort level here. I hope you reconsider, but BN is what it is... an assorted fruit basket!

It has nothing to do with being a newbie. The conflicts arise when people with very few posts, start a thread just to complain or they start one where there are already multiple other threads with the same topic.

Personally, until I had well over 500 posts, I never started a thread. I simply went to other threads and got to know other BNers.

Many newbies come to BN and get to know people before they go attacking or flaming. (Please note; I am not implying you've done any of these things because I haven't taken the time to go back and read all your posts.) When people come in with friendly banter, they are usually welcomed with open arms. If someone comes in complaining, there are usually a few people around who would like to set them back in their place.

Seriously ocracoker - I just try to avoid most of the heated threads, or interject some comedy. It wasn't this bad when I started, so I'm not saying that will work for you. I hope you stick around but I understand if you don't :-?

I lurked for a long time and then started posting, but it hasn't been that long ago compared to some. It can be all good and fun and then there are times when you need a thicker skin. Kind of like...

Good days and bad days
And going half-mad days.

BN seems to be going through a bit of a tough time right now (as said previously) due to this year's tour changes and ticket prices. To me it has a bit of a No Plane on Sunday feel to it. If you're disappointed by what's on the JB discussion thread, however, I've discovered that there are other discussion areas where people are still having fun. You're a part of making it what you want it to be.

Keep your fins up! :D
