new cd from 50 Cent

for any hip hop fans out there on BN, here is my quick review of the new cd, "The Massacre" from 50 Cent. My wife bought it last week and wanted to know what I thought of it given my background in hip hop so I gave it a listen.
A lot of the production is weak in my opinion, especially when compared to his first cd "Get rich or Die Tryin". In an interview he stated that he chose a lot of unknown producers so I guess that's why it lacks.
He really does not have a good rapping style, rather monotone in fact.
Heck, he really sound likes he mumbling lightly rather than energetically.
There is no catchy "In The Club" type song on this one like on his previous release. To me, he is the kind of rapper that has to have a good beat to sound good. "The Candy Shop" has a decent beat and production but the lyrical content is really weak.
The only song remotely good is "Get Mo Money" in which he disses Fat Joe, Nas, and a few others. The truth is though, that they are better than him, imo anyway. Even Eminem's appearance on a song could not save this album although it will prolly sell bigtime. In short "The Massacre" sounds like a massacre. So if you're looking for some hip hop I'd recommend the newest cd "Red Light District" from Ludacris over this one.

Whatchu laughing at Willis!?!?
I like the new Fitty cd... true, it's not as solid at Get Rich, but it's got enough solid tracks. I find myself liking Disco Inferno a lot more now then when it broke on radio and I have liked Hate It Or Love It since I first heard it. Get Mo Money is probably my 3rd or 4th favorite track. I haven't read the liner notes, but most of the beats sound like Dre's... are you sure he used a lot of different producers?

iu-
In an interview that he gave on MTV with Sway, 50 said that he used a bunch of different producers. He was given a tape with a bunch of different beats by different producers without knowing who made what.
That way if he liked it, he would use it regardless of if you were an unknown.
In my opinion the beats are far too weak to be of Dre's caliber.
Maybe I'm too rough on rappers nowadays since I'm from the days of RunDMC, LL, Beasties, Fat Boys, Whodini, UTFO, etc back when DJs actually Deejayed and it was more about fun than bang bang shoot em up, slanging dope and what not. At the risk of sounding like a wimp, most everything is far too negative now.
I guess that's one of the reasons that I got out of it although I still buy something if it grabs me every now and then.

i've been listening to a lot of rap lately and i've only been finding myself liking the more socially conscious rappers, like: Wyclef Jean, Kanye West, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, etc.
therefore, 50 wouldn't fit under there, but i still say that all of his singles are pretty catchy . . . . kinda sh*tty lyrics, but the beats aren't terrible

Fitty sucks...monotone, boring, weak content, repetitive...just like all other current rappers.
Eazy E, 2pac, old school Dre and Snoop...now that's rap

I agree, except I always thought Tupac kinda blew but all of a sudden became great when he died.
I remember back in 88 cruisin' around bumpin' Eazy E
"Cruisin' down the street in my six fo
Jockin' the freaks, clockin' the dough"
ahhh now that's music

I always liked 2pac since the Me Against hte World album...I loved All Eyez on Me when it came out and I still listen to it fairly regularly.

Hitting the Caps Lock and using a little more punctuation would do wonders in your posts....

for shizzle . . lol, and although I do like Dre and Snoop and E and all that other gangsta stuff, they're (excluding 2pac) almost as monotone as 50 .. . they just have better songs which makes them a lot better

they're just classics....
but I'd go as far to say that 2pac was the best rapper of all time. He had some deep lyrics, entertaining lyrics...and he could go from serious to screwing around instantly...and it was almost always good.

Tupac was great and was deff. one of the best rappers of all time and most influential, along with Dre and many others
I gotta say though, Kanye West is probably the best rapper out there right now cuz he can do what you just explained with 2pac going from deep to fun in one second. Can't wait for his next album.

I love Kanye and The College Dropout, but you can't say he's a good rapper... he's a terrible rapper. Talk about monotone. What bails him out is he is a fantastic lyricist and even better producer. He's made the best beats outside the Neptunes of 2004 & 05.
