Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay?
Has Jimmy ever performed this song?
I heard it this morning for the first time in a long time, and I still love it as much as the first day I heard it.
I know it wouldn't be the same with Jimmy singing it - but then again, neither is "The Wind Cries Mary".

Don't bash me for this, but I don't think Jimmy could pull that song off. He just doesn't have the voice for it. IMHO...he doesn't do a great job with Scarlet Begonias either. I better head for cover now cuz I have a feeling there's gonna be some flaming arrows coming my way.
BTW.... I do love Otis doing Dock Of The Bay.

I actually agree with you. While his version of Scarlet Begonias is one of my favorite songs on LTC, I do cringe a little when he tries for those high notes. Almost sounds like he is trying a little too hard. Sounds a little screechy at times. It's probably best that he lives this one to Otis. His voice isn't what it used to be, but we love him anyways.Reefdiver wrote:Don't bash me for this, but I don't think Jimmy could pull that song off. He just doesn't have the voice for it. When it comes to "Scarlet Begonias" I like Buffett's version. Hell, Garcia wasn't exactly blessed with an operatic voice either. As far as "Dock of the Bay" is concerned, I think it would be right down Buffett's alley thematically but I'd actually rather hear him play a rarity from the treasure chest than another cover.

Exactly!! I wouldn't mind if he ditched James Taylor's "Lighthouse" and pulled out a "Migration" or something along that line.Jahfin wrote:When it comes to "Scarlet Begonias" I like Buffett's version. I think it's best to leave that one to Otis.
Uncle John's Band was a good cover for JB to do. Scarlet Begonias wouldn't have been my first choice for another Dead cover. I would have preferred U.S. Blues, Franklin's Tower, Deal, maybe Mexicali Blues, but definitely something upbeat.

back in the day he had booze and drugs to blame it on. not sure what it is now thoughJahfin wrote:He was doing that as far back as You Had To Be There, check the liner notes' reference to "an overindulgence of Mount Gay Rum" (or words to that effect).12 lb. nestle crunch wrote:anyone notice he's been messing songs up a lot lately?

I was curious if he's ever performed the real song in concert , or whether he figures he couldn't do it justice so why bother trying.

JB forgetting words and adlibbing is one of my favorite things about the live shows.12 lb. nestle crunch wrote:back in the day he had booze and drugs to blame it on. not sure what it is now thoughJahfin wrote:He was doing that as far back as You Had To Be There, check the liner notes' reference to "an overindulgence of Mount Gay Rum" (or words to that effect).12 lb. nestle crunch wrote:anyone notice he's been messing songs up a lot lately?
