I think $7.50 is about what I paid for one of my first concerts back in the 70s, a triple bill featuring Rick Derringer, Foghat and the Outlaws. I have a friend that has a stub from a Grateful Dead show in the 80s, the price? $10.00. I have a ticket from the mid-80s for $17.50 and it seems they've just gone up from there. With inflation and the economy it's only natural ticket prices (along with everything else) are gonna go up, but it's the ones that are already overcharging for tix in the first place that get me.

I agree. And an increase that matched the rate of inflation, sure... but Greenspan and the kids at the Fed haven't been so lax as to allow double-digit inflation in a long time.
And at the risk of torquing some folks off: Sir Paul isn't worth $100, much less the $300 I have heard quoted for seats. (Shoot, even the Rolling Stones aren't really worth $100, and there's 4, or 5 of them.. and Mick's lawyers in the multiple paternity suits to support.)
The article about the roof tops at Wrigley said that the Cubs get 17 percent from the revenue generated at any event. Figure its similar or higher for the seats inside the stadium, insurance costs, costs for additional cleanup, revenue splitting with the city, guarantys for vendors and labor, it amazing that these stadium shows don't cost twice what they are charging.
all and all IMHO over 40% of the cost rise is insurance
with the lawsuit happy world we live in
how much did that woman get for spilling coffee in her lap???
Yes there are many real reasons to sue I am not against that
( GO BEG) !!!!!$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
but now everyone needs to be insured and to the max
in the "old days" it was the promoter and the Venue.
Now they sue the city, venue , the city council, the artist, the promoter,
the security company,the ticket agency,the cops,the beer seller,the taxi
the Radio Stations, and the folks who sponsor the show..

Even though I'm more of a Beatles fan than a McCartney one, I'd still love to see one of his shows but not at that cost. Same goes for U2. I should have seen them back in the day when ticket prices were at least reasonable. Back in '94 I paid $35 to see the Stones and it was roughly the same price to see Page and Plant in '95. I remember an interview with Robert Plant from around that time saying they gauged their ticket prices accordingly when they very well could have charged upwards of $100 a ticket like some other bands were doing (and continue to do). The bands that truly look out for their fans in that manner rather than giving them the impression that this is the last time you'll ever see them again will always be the first to get my support.
I guess with the eagles charging over $125 for their "hell freezes over " tour, That was 3 or 4 years ago. Then Jimmy is not too bad of a deal. I save for just this event. I live in Chgo, so it's not too much of a cost. At Alpine Valley theres the hotel, booze, food, booze, gas and did I mention the booze?
I'd rather die while I'm Living, Than live while I'm dead!

Actually, that was 1994. They were the first ones to charge over 40 dollars for a lawn seat

The Eagles are still charging those prices and are still touring under the premise that this may be the last chance you have to see them again. I believe Hell has frozen over several times by now.

LOL! I dunno. I really like the Eagles but I'm pretty happy to just listen to my CDs and save my $$$$ for Jimmy.
The article said the tickets were going up 4-5 dollars a ticket - that's not much of an increase if you ask me.
From what I've been told by people who have seen Sir Paul - he IS worth the money.
The way I look at it if the performer is an icon and I've never seen them before I don't mind the cost. If it's someone who comes to my area every year and their ticket cost goes up 20.00 or more from one year to the next they're raping me.
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.
I remember that Larry the Cable Guy played a couple Comedy Clubs around here until about 3 years ago and all it cost was the $15 cover and a 1 drink minimum now I saw somewhere that his tickets were $40 a piece. That is a big difference to me.

He got bigger because of the blue collar comedy tour.
Jimmy got bigger because of LTC.
I saw Larry in the original Blue Collar comedy tour years ago when they were touring and making the movie, I think the ticket was somewhere around $50 to see all 4 guys (jeff, bill, larry, and ron). I recently payed $65 just to see Larry at a casino in my city. Popularity increase = ticket price increase. Simple as that.

And when they did that I didn't go see them either.
When they run you out of town make it look like you are leading the parade.
