John Prine
For those with XM radio:
Bob Edwards Show on XMPR:
Tuesday 4/26: Bob spends an hour with folk music legend John Prine. In the early 1970's, there were a crop of young singer/songwriters who the music press insisted on calling "The Next Bob Dylan." Prine actually lived up to the hype. Prine has written countless tunes that have become American classics, and he's inspired generations of young musicians. His new cd, Fair and Square, debuts today, and features all original material.

No Depression really doesn't have anything to do with depression at all (at least not in the traditional sense), it comes from the Carter Family song "No Depression in Heaven" (referring to the economic depression at the time) and was also the title to this Uncle Tupelo album that serves as sort of the unofficial figurehead for the No Depression music movement that followed (aka Americana, alt.country, ya'llternative, etc.)ph4ever wrote:

No bad, just clarifying that the music movement (and magazine) doesn't have anything at all to do with depression.pair8head wrote:Jahfin wrote:No Depression really doesn't have anything to do with depression at all (at least not in the traditional sense), it comes from the Carter Family song "No Depression in Heaven" (referring to the economic depression at the time) and was also the title to this Uncle Tupelo album that serves as sort of the unofficial figurehead for the No Depression music movement that followed (aka Americana, alt.country, ya'llternative, etc.)ph4ever wrote:

it must be so sad to not have a sense of humor.
If I'm smart enough to google for a picture one would think that I could find out about the magazine if I was interested.
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.

Yes Jah I understand that. It's just that I realized she was joking.

I just hate it when people assume I'm stupid.

You said it, I didn't. Nice one, throwing "ass-u-me" in there too.ph4ever wrote:Jahfin wrote:Oh, I did too, I just wasn't sure she was aware of the actual meaning behind the name of the magazine.pair8head wrote: Yes Jah I understand that. It's just that I realized she was joking.

Nah, I don't think you're stupid, nor did I say as much but I've seen other people get the wrong impression behind the meaning of that magazine. Nothing more, nothing less. It's a great article by the way.

Well I am avoiding the one station that plays his music here and am not buying the CD until after the show. I wanna go in without any preassumtions and just sit back and enjoy.Jahfin wrote:Oughta be a good show. Last time when I saw him with Todd Snider we even got a few Buffett mentions (from both Todd and Prine). It was the week Buffett's dad died and apparently Todd had just recently lost his father as well. Prine just made a good natured crack about Buffett writing a lot of songs about food.pair8head wrote:Well I am avoiding the one station that plays his music here and am not buying the CD until after the show.
