Ebay ticket buying

I am probably in the wrong area to ask this question, but I thought the Jimmy Buffett Discussion area seemed to have the largest amount of posts, so might get some good answers. I am just curious to hear from people who have purchased tickets from ebay. Is there anything to watch out for? I am weighing the risks carefully. I normally buy from brokers, but for the most part the prices are higher this year which is really not a huge deal, but the seats don't seem to be as good this year from the brokers I have looked at. Any ideas or clues will be appreciated.
Thanks!

Hey phins, I just ahppen to be selling tix on ebay because no 9one was jumping for them. They aren't together but they are still great seats. I have never sold on ebay and I dont have any real feedback to offer but I have never had a problem there. I have one ticket auction ending today but I have a special combo pack posted there for thew two of them. I am a parrotthead who just had extra tickets. I live in NYC and if you want to bid or buy I can guarantee your secure delivery and REAL ticketmaster tix not tick. fast. I had three and sold one to someone from BN the others people shrugged at because they arent together. Here is the link. The auction ends in 2 hours.

I would say just the obvious stuff, look at their feedback and read it. Read the positives too. Sometimes a positive feedback is really a negative in disguise.
Also look at their terms of the auction. Do they have tickets in hand. When will they ship? Are they ticketfast tickets? If so, I'd be very careful and buy from a reputable seller. They could be selling the same tickets to a bunch of people.

Another option would be to try StubHub.com..
I have purchased tickets there several times without any problems.

I bought tickets on ebay last year to see JB at Blossom in Cleveland. I happened to be buying them from someone who gets season tickets and was selling them - wasn't interested in going. That worked out great! I've purchased other things off ebay and you just have to carefully research their feedback. I always make a point to email them at least a couple of times to see how fast they get back to me and how they answer my questions. I've not been burned yet.

Never pay more than face value. You will only perpetuate the problem and rip Jimmy off. There
ARE
ALWAYS tickets in the parking lot.

I have bought tickets from ebay. They were okay. I use it as a last resort. Last year, i bought 1 for a phriend of my wife. We went to Alpine Valley. We just wanted to make sure that our phriend was covered. It is a nessary evil sometimes.

I purchased tickets to a "sold out" Vegas show on ebay a few years ago.
I was lucky, I wound up getting great seats at face value, from a Vegas
local that had extra tix. It was an excellent experience.
But beware, I'm sure there are bad sellers out there also.

Check the
sellers rating as well as the feedback.

AWWWW...CJ, I'm going to ignore our differences we have with the cost of tickets and brokers

but I just can't ignore the grammar; especially from you!

I have got tickets for baseball and football games on ebay, and have done well. Ive not bought JB tickets from ebay. I was lucky enough to get them at the ticket window. Just check feedback on ebay, most of the sellers there are good people, but there are a few to watch out for.

I've purchased tickets (Buffett and others) on eBay without any problems. There are many honest eBay sellers.......look at the feedback ratings.

I've been a long time ebay-er for years, and just made my first ticket purchase on Monday for the 8/27 show in Philly. The seller's gotten in touch with me and hopefully I'll see the tickets by the weekend. Fortunately, both Ebay and Paypal both offer buyer protection, which I've had to use in the past. So even if you don't receive the tickets, you should get your money back. Ebay offers up to 1000.00, and I'm not sure offhand what Paypal offers.

I bought tix off of ebay a couple of times. Just look at the seller's feedback and be smart.

I agree Never pay more than face value.... but I have to question..How do you figure Jimmy is getting ripped off? Jimmy gets his cut, the scalpers pay face value, I don't think most of them pay service fees because they get them in lots. The FANS are the ones getting RIPPED OFF!!! The scalpers are multiplying so it must be working for them and Jimmy. All Jimmy has to do is listen to us cry about the cost and laugh his way to the bank!
And why does Ticketmaster get such a big chunk....the more the ticket costs the more the service fee...come on its just a piece of paper, it doesn't cost any more to move an expensive piece of paper than a cheap cheap piece of paper. What happened to flat rate fees. Whats next do we have to estimate flushes while attending the concert and prepay for usage.
I buy my tix in the parking lot $15-20 , after the 1st song or two the prices go way down. If you are a true parrot head you always know someone that knows someone that needs a ticket at face value. There is no reason to sell tickets (unless you are a scalper) on ebay....Buffettnews gives you a place to sell tix, Jimmydreams and COBO do as well. We need to stand together on this!!!! Don't feed these idiots!
Okay, I'm done...Sorry folks its been a tough day.

No personal attack intended Cowboyjunkie, I just needed to get that off my chest.

Uh, I think we agree 100% on this issue. Obviously, fans are the biggest losers in the transaction. TicketMaster and Clear Channel have ruined popular music. Artists no longer have time to develop and don't stand a chance without Clear Channel radio play and access to TM venues. At the HoF induction speech, U2 discussed this very issue.
The artist gets ripped off when someone profits off of them. Ticket prices are set so everyone involved meets their financial goals from artist to promoter. A scalper hijacks that process and holds tickets hostage. Suddenly, the supply is artificially reduced while demand remains the same. They stand to profit off an event that they have nothing to do with. Why should they make $$$ off of Jimmy performing 27 songs? He's the one singing and he's the one who should keep the profit. I'll take the heat from all the USA nuts about free enterprise and greed is good. Technically, everyone has the right to own a handgun and look where that took us! Unchecked greed has ruined the concert industry and that really bites since I love music.
I was drawn to Jimmy Buffett because of his anti-establishment songwriting and believe a fan base as strong as his could impact the industry by refusing to deal with scalpers. Let every eBay auction expire without a bid, work together to push Margaritaville to allot more tickets to the Phan clubs, use great sites like this to exchange tickets at face value, and even help each other beat TicketMaster by helping people get tickets for other shows. I regret not buying a few for Wrigley and getting them into the hands of some BN'ers. That would have helped a little.
I love your line...Don't feed these idiots! That sums up a complicated issue very succinctly. Kudos!

I take offense to the, "Don'tpay more than face value" statement. I had and have extra tickets and posted here first for face and fees. Lots of people jumped but nobody bit. So, to recoop my money back I resorted to selling on ebay. Now, I have to pay ebay fees, shipping fees and am I supposed to eat that? I am still selling my tickets but now i have to recoop the fees that I have incurred not only from ticketmaster but from ebay and shipping as well. Everybody wantsd to see Jimmy but nobody wants to pay. What's up with that? I am selliing my tickets now at $150 a pop. This is because of the fees that I have had to shell out. If parrottheads wanted to go without paying extra charges than they should have bought the tickets before I incurred other charges. I felt like scum putting them on ebay but I had to get my money back. So, sometimes you have to charge a little extra and I'm not out to rob anybody but extra charges, extra money. Hello?

Okay...I just wanted some simple answers, but as is typical, I have started an entire debate on issues that weren't intended. I swear no matter what is asked or approached, it has to turn into bashing someone. I apologize for asking a legitimate question. I have my tickets for Indiana, and I got a decent price. No added costs or fees. I got lucky. Thanks to all who replied with genuine answers and good advice.

I've always assumed face value includes the TM fees. Do your best to recoup exactly what you spent on them. If $150 is the exact cost of the tickets with TM fees, that is a very fair price. However, to save the hassle, you could just bring them to the show and sell them on your way in. I made $20 and a rum and coke for a lawn seat in Oahu last week. Below face value but no hassle. Plus, I made somebody's day without that dirty eBay feeling you mentioned.

The person sold them to me for face value. Otherwise, I would not have bought them.
