I have been there for The Oates festivities - f**** awesome! I left before the derby but I have a good friend that has been in the infield 3 years in a row and loves it!

What are the Oates festivities???? Do you mean the Oaks?
I was just thinking about popping in and asking the same question!
I'll be there for Friday - Oaks Day and
Saturday - Derby Day.
Take plenty of money and some sunscreen
This will be DH's 27th consective Derby and my 17th or 18th. I missed 1997 for childbirth (an acceptable excuse for an absence with our group!)
Try to eat at Milillos (gotta check the spelling). Great Italian place (owner is from Newark. NJ).

I hope you're better at picking horses than you are at counting to 21

I was supposed to but it was a rainy weekend. They still had the fireworks but they cancelled the blue angels from what i'm told.
I"m thinking about going - I have a good friend who has some connections. Maybe I'll get lucky and get to go.

We decided not to make the drive since it was snowing pretty good here.

Isn't evil George's horse the early favorite? Derby day is going to s*** this week as I am sure we will have to listen to george.

HIS HORSE IS ONE OF THE FAVORITES ( ZITO & PLETCHER HAVE A COUPLE ALSO) . IF THE HORSE LOSES GEORGIE WILL PROBABLY SEND IT TO THE GLUE FACTORY.
KENTUCKEY DERBY IS A MUST DUE SOME YEAR. I GO UP TO SARATOGA FOR THE BREEDERS CUP EVERY YEAR. GREAT TIME

The infield is like Bourbon St. around Mardi Gras. Packed, boozy, boobs. And probably only 50% of the people in there actually pay attention to the races. It's better up in the clubhouse.....but can't get there unless you know somebody or ARE somebody!

Saratoga - The Travers is every year in August and you're right, it's great!
The Breeder's Cup alternates tracks every year.
Hope this helps.

Not true at all. Now, if you're talking 3rd floor Clubhouse that's another story. Clubhouse seats at other levels are not that difficult to get. Expect to pay between double/triple face.
