I do not think this has been done before so I will give it a try. Name a song that you didn't really give much attention to until you heard Jimmy do it live and gained a new appreciation for.
Mine was his solo performance of "Dreamsicle" in Pittsburgh, 92.

I have to say I missed this one . . .
at a concert, long time ago . . can't remember where or when .. I heard Jimmy do " Cowboy in the Jungle " live . . .
it was amazing . .
I wasn't a " new " PH . .but I had never heard that song before . .
now, I'm one of those that wait and hope for him to do all the old classics. . .
don't think he'll hang me up again . .

That is #1 on my list of favorite Jimmy songs so I always had an appreciation for it. However as goofy as this sounds...I don't remember if I have seen it live or not...somehow I think i might have but can't remember where!

Cuban Crime of Passion I was lukewarm about this song
Last year in Denver I was not helped on this
But In San Deigo I was on the lawn and center stage
And that song hit me..
And now I love it..

that's how it happens. . .
. . . .Jimmy knows exactly how to " get " us. . . . .
and with it , we get all those great memories. . .

His live version of John Hiatt's My Blue Telescope. Not Blue Guitar, but "My Blue Telescope"

I had never cared for "Changing Channels" until he closed the Tampa show with it in April 04.
Now I love it!!

There have been several. Heard I Love the Now at a concert, that was my new favorite. Knees of my Heart, Meet Me In Memphis, Saxaphones were the same, my favorites too. Nothing could beat Banana Republics though (Chicago, I think) when he did it as a solo for an encore. The vocal just sent chills down your spine!

Oh yes!! I heard a copy of this song. I would love to have him put it on an album.
I liked hearing the Wino and I Know last year.

That performance of Banana Republics was really special. A difficult night for me, and that song brought me to tears. He really seemed into the song, and the solo version was awesome!

I was at the rescheduled Chicago shows after 9/11. When he played Defying Gravity it sent chills down my spine. Up until then it was a second tier song for me. Now it's one of my favorites.

Solo Banana Republics was played by JB in Chicago last August 26th, it was a great tribute to Steve Goodman and a great way to end that Thursday night show.

Gotta just mention the two gems that only exist in live form- In The City and Everlasting Moon. Two of my favorites that I would love to hear how album versions would sound if they existed.

Not a JB original, but Southern Cross took on all new meaning when I heard him sing it live.

Survive
Tampa 1998
I always like the song...but watching him close the show..all alone on the stage...gave me goosebumps. The emotion and feeling he gave that song that night gave me a whole new appreciation of it.

For me, a really magical moment occurred during the Dominoe College tour of (I think) 1994. Right after intermission, on the stage were just Amy Lee and Robert Greenidge, and the did a duet of Banana Republics. The combination of that soulful sax and the steel drum that sounded more like an organ than a percussion instrument was really something.
Also, on A1A, I had heard Life is Just a Tire Swing many times, but had not really paid close attention to the lyrics. When I finally did, I was struck by how clever they are. I should have known, of course, that Jimmy is the master of clever lyrics!

Hated Autour Du Rocher on the CD. It sounded great live at Alpine 2001 and I've liked it ever since.
