Need help finding a place to hang in Tampa

Post by jollymon345 »

Hey Everybody! I am heading down to Tampa next week and I'm looking for a nice little beach bar or somewhere that I can just sit and chill and spend my day just waisting away. Anybody know of any good places in the Tampa- St. Pete area? Thanks.

Ybor isn't all that bad on weekday nights...better during the day...

Rocky Point area on Tampa Bay, close to the airport:
Bahama Breeze-Great atmosphere, good food
Green Iguana-Younger crowd, packed on weekends
Landrys-Outside dining, a little bit more expensive, but worth it

Clearwater Beach:
Shephards-Foods marginal, but nice beachfront bar
Frenchy's-Upstairs for the sunset is pretty cool

St. Pete Beach area:
Undertow-limited menu but a great venue
Jimmy B's-beach party
Caddy's-See Jimmy B's
Sloppy Joe's-Beach bar-pretty fair grouper sandwiches

That's a very short list...27 miles of beaches around these parts :D :D ...you're bound to find something....

http://www.tbo.com/nightlife/ and about half way down on the right is Clubland...pretty good place to start..

Thanks. I'll check out these places. I just wanna find me a nice little relaxing place with a nice view, cold drinks and some decent music. I'm getting a way from all the noise and work so I just wanna chill for a few days.

There is a great bar on the beach in Clearwater, called the Pavillion. It is outside, has a buy playing guitar most evenings. Just a really fantastic outside bar. Check it out!

As posted on the thread referenced by BB, the John's Pass/Treasure Island/Madiera Beach area is nice (between St. Pete and Clearwater). There's a bar there called the "Bamboo Beer Garden", just a tiny little shack but it's been there forever and has tons of charachter. There's Hubbard's boardwalk complex as well, there's food shopping, even can rent jet ski's or take a boat tour from there. Gators is another decent bar in that area as well.

If you're looking for a boat tour/dolphin sightings/shelling off of an island, I'm partial to www.dolphinlandings.com they also have sailboat cruises, and ........... they are located in St. Pete's Beach, and I think their new place is open in Tampa too.

If you hit Clearwater Beach by 4-8pm you don’t have to pay to see dolphin. They love the warm water on the southeast side of Memorial Causeway.

I agree with the suggestions listed above ('cept the Bamboo Beer Garden! During the week it draws a much older crowd...over 60), but there are 2 places on Rocky Point Causeway (Highway 60 before you cross the Courtney Campbell closer to you in Tampa. Check out Bahama Breeze or Whiskey Joes. The traffic can be murder heading west @ 5 pm!

Another suggestion is Nutes in downtown Tampa... it’s the Parrotthead must stop across from The St Pete Times Forum. No water but fun crowd.

If you do get to Clearwater Beach... (a must in my book) The Pavilion and Frenchy’s share a parking lot...you can hit both! But don't be alarmed when the crowd erupts in applause when the sun sets!

Welcome to Tampa Bay…. You won’t want to leave. 

That's exactly why I mentioned it, I had a blast swapping stories with the old-timers there.

We were just down in St Pete about 3 weeks ago. We went to a great parrothead bar in North Redington Beach (about halfway between Clearwater and St Pete) called the Conch Republic. The food was great and they played Jimmy's music the entire time. :D

Well I do love the beach bars, but Ybor city is definitely a place to party. There is a killer micro brewery called the Tampa Bay Brewing Company, and a cayote ugly also.

I think that Rocky Point will be the easiest place to get to from tampa, great atmosphere and right on the Bay. Like a few other people mentioned, Newks is a must do, a true homage to Buffett

Enjoy!
