the only issue with driving vs flying is the distance, it would cost me say $150-200 for gas to drive to chicago, and thats for four people, I found flights for $225 a person from boston, that extra day or two at work I can go to by having a 3 hour travel time vs. 20 hours in a car makes it more worth while to fly, plus I discussed it with them and as much as my buddies are cool people, I have absolutly no desire to spend 20 hours in a car with them so I ordered plane tickets for us and they are picking up the hotel and partying, not exactly a fair trade off, but its worth saving my sanity.

the other key is see if there is any way AT ALL to turn it into a business trip, you go a day earlier than you normally would, have a meeting in the morning, play golf in the afternoon and party at night, that way you may be able to list certian things such as flight and rent a car as business expenses and depending how nice your boss is you can get alot of it taken care of, just be upfront with your reasoning to avoid trouble, I have been known to be meeting with clients the morning of several buffett shows

A friend of mine took clients to a Buffett tailgate and show. He had very, very happy clients.
And I use almost all of my vacation time to go to shows- I mean, that's where my friends are anyway. I can travel with parrotheads or I can sit at home!

Lots of Buffett shows turn out to be vacation trips with the family. I've done 8 in one year with a lot of effort
Helps to be retired, but even when I worked, holidays and vacation days were planned around Buffett trips.
Good to hit VEGAS and CALIFORNIA, Houston and Dallas, Columbia SC, Orlando and Tampa, Indy and Alpine.
Jimmy plans his shows well for attending a cluster in an area in a short time. Jimmy, please schedule Texas soon or it may be NO show for me at all this year. Some of it's magic; some of it's tragic!
Thanks to Radio Margaritaville, we'll get by!

I could never take a client to a tailgate party, lets just say my behavior there and my behavior in the office are EXTREMELY different

It his business because its an interesting question and I am pretty sure the First Amendment still applies.
I believe the problem is when SouthernSeas said
I think some of you are lying when you say you go to 8 concerts a year.
That was kinda rude to call some people lyers the way I see it. 99% of BNers meet other BNers at Tailgating, so there are witnesses.

That was my point.... not that it wasnt an interesting question. Just a poor way of delivering it. But it seems I was the minority.

No it doesn't. Only the government can infringe your consitutional rights so unless phjim and the moderators are government agents in disguise the First Amendment argument, which so many people like to throw around, is irrelevant.

no you can still pull it off very easily, I have done it several times, flat out tell the boss that you are goin to see Buffett as part of your trip so you need that extra day, normally they will understand, and now I am the boss so it makes things slightly easier. you go see your client at say, 9:00 AM, have a productive hour long meeting, and you're in the parking lot by noontime with or without the client. The only suggestion I have is DO NOT MAKE YOUR MEETING FOR THE MORNING AFTER THE SHOW, I made that mistake last year after Fenway Park, and I wasn't even traveling or anything and lets just say I had a rough time pulling myself together to look presentable, it took about four cups of dunkin donuts.

When did they start serving dunkin donuts in cups?

5 last year, including the surprise one...
One in the back yard, one just 2 hours away by bus with the other PHC members, Alpine, and then the Hurricane Relief concert that got put together (travel plans) in less than a week all told. Two of the shows were on Tuesday nights, so no time burned. Alpine was a Saturday, so there was three days off, and the other was a Saturday so one day off.
I was already off for the week when a certain balding attention-hound bumped Peter Mayer off stage and took over his slot at the Casa.
As for funding, that is what OT, and the job in the pipe shop covers

I hear you. I own my business as well, work 6-7 days a week 12 hrs a day, 6-8 on the weekends. By the time my Buffett tour starts I need and deserve it. It would be more difficult if I had a wife or keets butI don't so that is not an issue.
Some people have yearly x-mas accounts, I have a vacation account I fund year round so there is not a big money hit when the concerts come around.
as I said before Iwork for myself so I can schedule the days off as I need them.

Wow I didn't know we had such a scholar of con law. Well let me get this straight...according to your theory...the orignal poster does not have the right to express his opinion because this is not a government controlled board. Wow thats an intertesting theory...because when one reads the Consitution it does not say that free speech only applies in government controlled situations. The government of course is the only one that can be called to task for infringing or suppressing it, but I am pretty sure THE RIGHT STILL EXISTS!!!!!!!! Thats why I can write a letter to my newspaper, I can put a bumper sticker on my car, thats why I can curse out my neighbor if I so choose, that why I can post on this site, you know because WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO FREE SPEECH!!!!!!...Unless your theory is that phjim has somehow risen to the point that he controls all the free speech in America. If thats true I didn't read it in the paper.
Wow my eyes are so much more open now.

Ummm. I'm just gonna pretend I'm Switzerland here, but the quoted poster you suggest IS a legal expert, and also correct. It's true, you can do all of the things you suggested, however, your rights to post what-not on this board are not guaranteed by the government. It's a privately-owned site, where phjim makes the rules. I can't just go off and drop the f-bomb as I please here and expect the government to protect my right to free speech. Phjim has every right to regulate my speech here.
However, what would be true, is if the government decided to shut down BN because the government didn't 'like' Jimmy Buffett. Then, the GOVERNMENT would be inflicting on the freedom of speech.
Does that make more sense?
