Window on the world

Post by lookingat40 »

I think "window on the world" is a very underated song...It may be the best on LTC or at least a close second to "Coast of Carolina". It came on my cd player while I was mowing the grass and had it set on random and I had forgotten it was on LTC...I thought for a moment it was an older song...It may contain the Buffett bravado but I think it's great...maybe my summer song this year....Following the likes of Imcommundicado, Tin Cup, Wino, Pirate and SOASOAS...Every year a new one becomes my favorite.

although I really don't like "Coast of Carolina" and consider it a "skipper" I love "Window on the world" and it is one of my faves from LTC.
The original is by John Hiatt and is also good.

Window on the World was written by and recorded by John Hiatt. John Hiatt's original version is a bit more bluesy than Jimmy's . I think Hiatt's version is superior to Jimmy's cover of it, but then again, the originals are almost always better than the cover. ie: The Dead's Uncle John Band, & Scarlet Begonias. Jimmy adds a nice flavor to Window on the world

I'm a big fan of Window on the World too. It's probably my second or third favorite song from LTC.

Wow, I think nearly every song Jimmy has covered (in the studio) is better than the original, especially the Dead covers. To each his own I guess.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But to say that Jimmy does the Dead better than Jerry and the Boys, yikes, I want some of what you are smoking. I first heard John Hiatt perform WOTW and it immediately became one of my favorites. Jimmy adds nice flavor to it, but he does not do it justice. So now pass that J over here so I can have a toke.

I think Buffett does a great job on his covers but very few (at least the ones I've heard) surpass the originals, especially the Grateful Dead, Bob Marley and Guy Clark.

I think Jimmy does a better version of Mexico then James Taylor.
Especially live..... I also like Jimmy’s Brown Eyed Girl better then the original (well the live version of BEG at least).

The Dead versions sound way too folky for my taste.
I like how Jimmy has kinda made them both way more energetic.
