I think Jimmy is trying to turn parrotheads on to Jack. At the Wal mart show Jimmy only played 11 songs and one of them was the Jack cover, the horizon has been defeated. Jimmy talked about Jack some before he went into the song. Giving Jack some respect. If you like Jimmy's mellow stuff and JT, I think you will definitely like Jack.
Jimmy stares
Towards the bright Pleiades
It's so strange
What his distant eye sees
Who knows why you start
Rediscovering your heart
But you do it again and again
Towards the bright Pleiades
It's so strange
What his distant eye sees
Who knows why you start
Rediscovering your heart
But you do it again and again

That's the great thing about this world, everyone has different likes and tastes, makes for a great melting pot. Jack grew up on the North Shore of Hawaii in a house right in front of Pipeline and has travelled extensively surfing and making surf movies. This cultural exposure shows through in his music. For those of you who do enjoy Jack Johnson's music you may also enjoy Ben Harper and Donovan Frankenreiter. Here is Jack Johnson's web site address for samples of his music and links to similar artists like Ben Harper and Donovan. http://www.jackjohnsonmusic.com/
Oh, and bye the way can someone try to sell me on this Jimmy Buffett guy?

I don't think that you will automatically like JJ just because you are a JB fan. Heard "The Horizon is Defeated" at the Carolina Concerts earlier this year and it did not do a lot for me.
On a whim this past week, I picked up the latest Jack Johnson CD at Target because it was on sale. I have listened to it about 5 times through. Great CD, reminds me more of JT than it does JB, but Jack Johnson has a great, unique sound.
I say "sell yourself" Have someone burn a copy of the CD. If it does nothing for you, move on. There's plenty of great music out there.

old stuff
I can understand you not really liking the new cd, but his older stuff is really laid back and insightful at the same time. you really have to appreciate his take on life to like his music, so give it a shot. others might know more about trading music files than me, but there is a site somewhere where you can find some of his first concerts recorded, and his oldest stuff is his best (much like jimmy if you ask me). also if you want to google around for awhile, he has some good stuff under the title g.o.a.t. so look into that if you're really interested. let me know if i can help ya at all

I've heard Jack on the radio, and like the songs well enough, but never went out to get a cd.
My nephew bought me In Between Dreams over the weekend... I absolutely love it!!! It just provides a happy, laid-back vibe, which suits me perfectly, and I think they are great songs!!!

Jack Johnson Bundles Live DVDs
From Billboard.com:
http://www.billboard.com/bb/daily/artic ... 1001307873

By Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
Two live Jack Johnson DVDs will be released together Nov. 22 via his own Brushfire Records label. "Live in Japan" was shot in August 2004, while "A Weekend at the Greek Theatre" was lensed during an Aug. 19-20, 2005, stand at the Berkeley, Calif., venue. Both DVDs were directed by Brendan and Emmett Malloy.
"Live in Japan" spotlights Johnson's band in a trio setting, with bassist Merlo Podlewski and drummer Adam Topol focusing on songs from the albums "Brushfire Fairytales" and "On and On." Also featured is an early version of "Banana Pancakes," which turned up on this year's album "In Between Dreams," plus guest shots from Donavon Frankenreiter and Money Mark.
"A Weekend at the Greek Theatre" finds Johnson's band expanded to a quartet with pianist/accordionist Zach Gill of the Animal Liberation Orchestra. The group is joined again by Money Mark and fellow Brushfire signees G. Love, Animal Liberation Orchestra and Matt Costa.
Beyond an Oct. 29 appearance at Las Vegas' Vegoose Festival and a Nov. 20 show in Kahului, Hawaii, Johnson has begun lining up 2006 tour dates, beginning Feb. 22 in Dublin.
He is also at work on new music for the upcoming animated film "Curious George," the soundtrack for which is due in February via Brushfire. The movie will boast the voice talents of Will Ferrell, David Cross, Drew Barrymore, Eugene Levy and Dick Van Dyke.

it took me awhile to get into Brushfire Fairytales. I bought the album almost two years ago and didn't think much of it except Flake and Bubletoes, and then this summer I listened to it again and really enjoyed listenening to it. i found it to be really laid back and mello. I don't think I have heard anything on his other two albums but if they are anything like Brushfire Fairytales I won't be dissapointed.
