Wrong.
how so? the mormon church out here made a big deal about how they produced it.....
The movie was produced by individual families. There was a big story on it. Remember I live in Idaho it has been big news
the financing came from the church, hence the producer label
Wrong again. Keep trying.

Not sure about that, but the writers did go to BYU, but that doesn't necessarily make them Mormon.
Why would any non-Mormon choose to go to BYU? Did you ever check out the code of conduct at that place? Scary. :o
I'm sure some people are raised Mormon, go to BYU, and then leave the church shortly after they graduate. I don't know of specific Mormon examples, but how many ex-Catholics do you know?
Come to think of it, I think Trey Parker (of South Park fame) grew up Mormon, or maybe I just think that because of that Orgazmo movie.
I live in Salt Lake Idaho. There are ex mormons everywhere.

The impression I got from a recent special I saw on TV about today's youth culture is that it's aimed almost exclusively at teens. That probably answers a lot of questions as to why some people like it more than others. I've read lots of favorable press about it but from the scenes I've watched I haven't felt compelled to go out and rent it right away.

The movie is absolutely a cult classic!! :P

It's plenty stupid, and so much so, that it just becomes hi-larious

...and, btw, who the hell cares if it's made by Mormons?!
Are you afraid there will be Mormon propaganda "hidden" somewhere that will compromise your faith to its' very core?!?!
That's the kind of ridiculous statement that has helped create the divide between the peoples of this country. :-?

I didn't get the movie. I think at 25, I'm too old to understand it. Belleville, IL actually had a Napoleon Dynamite festvial a few weeks ago. Go figure :-?

CNN had a news story on it and said it was this generation's Animal House. I find that very hard to believe.

I've never heard anything about the Mormon church being involved. I was under the impression that it was an MTV studios film.

Napoleon Dynamite is one of my favorite movies EVER......it takes a warped mind, I suppose.

Pegs....shocks....LUCKY....

Napoleon, don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day. Besides, we both know that I'm training to be a cage fighter.

We will be attending "Napoleon Dynamite Days" in beautiful downtown Preston, Idaho next month....tater tot eating contest, probably make some boondoggle keychains, a must have for this season's fashions.

The producers are Mormons, but it was not produced BY the mormons.

You see the MTV Films logo up front as a producer along with Fox Searchlight as distributor

I'm waaaaaaaaay older than 25.....I think you have to watch in knowing there's nothing to "get"....look at the line in the trailer, "Napoleon Dynamite, He's out to prove he's got nothing to prove."

Speaking as a pirate at 40+ who loves this flick,
right from the opening credits, it quickly became apparent that this was one of those films that you just have to
let go of your firm grip of reality and just let this film happen, and accept it for what it is... purely silly

don't remember the name. the newspaper here did an expose on the church's commercial holdings and mentioned it. ebert also mentioned the company and their involvement with ND and several other "secular" films when he reviewed the movie. its a relatively new business venture for the church.

Did they buy it when they sold Coca-Cola? Or when they Sold McDonalds?

The kid who wrote it did so as a project for a class project at BYU. He then showed it at the Sundance film festival. After that it was picked up by a production company. The church was not involved.

AF, I'm more curious to know what your point is about the Mormon church
whether it was is involved (it isn't) or not?

Have you even seen the movie??

I guess you don't have the "God Makers" Handbook that tells you to hate everything Mormon.
