It's all been addressed over and over. Go back to Friday night, apply butt to chair and read the posts and bring yourself up to speedHsvParrothead wrote:Ummm.... I have NOT read through all this... so forgive if this has already been asked....But...
What was the original intent of this project? Was it to raise money...or was it just to have a "private" show... cause at these numbers... it's ANYTHING but "Private" or do you simply want it known that BN brought you this show... really, at this stage...talking venues of 10,000 people... whats the point???
Second: Was Jimmy alone ever tossed out as an idea... the initial figures passed along from his booking company is showin 1/2 a million to cover the "band"... transport, lodging, salaries, etc.
What about just Jimmy and a guitar with a couple mic's, amps, and a soundboard with tech?!?!?!? ...
I kinda thought the original idea was to schedule more of something like you might be lucky enough to encounter at LuLu's or a M'ville on a given night when he just happened to stop in and play
Finally: Your talking "non-profits" and "corporations".... First... I do not believe you could meet any of the IRS criteria for establishing a non-profit... we're not a religous group, we're not here for an educational purpose... and unless your looking to perform a function annually or on an ongoing basis throughout the year to raise funds for selected charities or form your own charity open to sponsorships... I dont believe they will let you slide in as a charitable organization as well...
And if you are looking to form an actual corporation...Your asking for it on a tax liability standpoint... OMG... that's just more of a headache than anyone wants to deal with... even if it's a simple LLC or S-Corp. ... more trouble than it's worth for the purpose of entertainment...
NOT TO MENTION the cost involved in forming a Corporation... attorneys fees, filing fees, local business license, state licenses, which brings up... which state would you form the corporation in... each state provides it's own benefits which vary from state to state...
Nonetheless... you almost have to have a full time (compensated) staff in order to approach this from that angle....
Anyhooo.. if any of this has been addressed or asked already... I apologize... I'm too lazy to read through the last 30 post that all equal or exceed mine in length

I think we should be cautious about turning this into a battle between the "haves, and the have nots" The origin of this discussion (first 5 or 6 posts) was to create an opportunity that sidestepped brokers, corporate sponsors, and scalpers in the hopes that we could have a Buffett Concert for the phans by the phans. A concert that we all could afford to attend. An opportunity based on luck of the draw to get front row seats or the fringes of the lawn. Either way, knowing that it was fair and affordable for all involved, I could live with lawn if that is what luck deals me. I think that the fact that poor working college students, grand parents, keets, and middle aged farts like myself, can all gather for one common purpose is what makes going to a Buffett Concert such a great thing. I am realistic that there is a huge money issue on pulling this thing off, but I do believe if we keep a clear focus on what is important, that we can do this, and do it for less than we are currently paying for tickets.

It is my understanding that two people, at least, have taken charge, and are working closely together to make this a reality for all of us. Both individuals I am speaking of jumped on this idea within the first 10 posts of the original thread, and have worked closely together ever since. It appears that they have taken serious steps toward this goal, and have opened up their ears to all of the wonderful advice and ideas offered on this board. Them there wheels, ain't spinning, they are firmly on the ground and moving in a forward direction.Tiki Bar wrote:Until someone takes charge, it's all just spinning wheels...

Sorry little bro, but I can't say I disagree with MF. The "I'm too lazy to read back so here's a great idea or two" is wearing a bit thin with me as well. Why should some have to read the whole thread and not others?MF wrote:It's all been addressed over and over. Obviously all reasonable ideas are welcome, but since Upstate and Q&S are going to great pains to read every post and cosolidate ideas and info, we can at least do our part by not repeating ideas that may already have been posted a couple of times. I think that would make their job a whole lot easier.
I still love ya though, little bro.

I don't think expecting to pay less than current prices for tickets is realistic. In order for this to work I think this going to have to be a small (less than 5,000 people) event that will be a once in a lifetime experience. And to get that you're going to have to shell out a large sum of money for a ticket. I think we need to come to the realization that if this isn't what the group wants them we are really spinning our wheels.FFishstick wrote:OceanCityGirl wrote:

I never had the opportunity to go to one of the Long Island benefit shows. But if I remember, tickets were about $250-$300. I certainly remember thinking that was reasonable for what you got...Jimmy, his guitar and a "no songs from the big show" set list. And the last year he brought the "beach band" with him.
That is the kind of show I'd like to see. And I'd think it would be easier to pull off. As Jimmy said in Six String Music, KISS.
Plus, band rehersals for full CRB productions of West Nashville Grand Ballroom Gown and Nautical Wheelers might be more trouble than its worth.
If we invite RM to broadcast an accoustic show, maybe Sirius and/or Jimmy will have a stronger interest.
My 2 cents.

I'll up it to a dime! That kind of show is exactly what I believe we're after.

Didn't hit a nerve. Just tired of some of the crap around here. I do feel you are showing incredible impudence when you say you are too lazy to read the posts that are as long as yours yet you expect other people to read yours, especially when you don't have a clue as to what you are talking about. If your too lazy to read the threads don't put out the effort to post.HsvParrothead wrote:MIDNIGHT FLYER

As far as getting the impression that I am quite the ass (go ahead, you're a big boy, you can spell it out), at times I am. At times it is well deserved. This is not one of them although, I have been called worse by better.

Ok, I don't know if this was addressed on one of the other threads or not, but Sandals (and I to an extent) made friends with Greg on the cruise. He's would love to play with the band again, but after what we saw on the cruise and after, we understand why he's not with the band anymore. If he would clean up his act, then maybe, but I wouldn't hold my breath for that yet.
