the ticket money went to the benefit, and jimmy took a million dollar donation to charity write off on his taxes....PA PAR8 HED wrote:I never had the opportunity to go to one of the Long Island benefit shows. But if I remember, tickets were about $250-$300.
once again i say if you can't fly easily and cheaply to the venue attentance will be hurt.
i would budget at least 2 mil for expenses
I'd feel bad for you, but I have no soul.....

I have been following this idea since the first night.... on the first page of the original thread.... and was more than happy to be part of the planning team. However as I posted Monday night, I feel that the money involved is the big issue. I have been reading more than posting...not wanting to seem like I was posting doom and gloom. Because:
Yes, the original plan was to keep it small. And now we are talking about corporate sponsors becasue of the cost. That type of show is one I can see every year so I wouldnt travel very far if that is what we are after. Not many will.
Realistically, I believe that we would not have 2500 people from this board and a guest travel to see the show. Spending combined at least $600 on tickets then ADD the cost of travel. Which means opening it up to the masses...defeats the original idea.
You will never make everyone happy. Feelings will be hurt because decisions have to be made. We have such a good thing here on BN... I am not sure its worth messing that up. And I believe something of this magnitude might do it. Shoot...people are already beginning to squabble!
That said...its a great idea. But real life sets in and I believe we should leave putting on concerts to the experts. Hopefully we will continue to be able to enjoy them for many years.
However...if the right 6 numbers come in...you are all invited to my backyard!

I'm kind of gettin' there, too. At $2 million this is an enormous undertaking.ToplessRideFL wrote:I have been following this idea since the first night.... on the first page of the original thread.... and was more than happy to be part of the planning team. We are all over the board (literally) with where, what and how to do this. Although a strong leadership effort has not yet been made to reign it all in, the likelihood that enough people (to generate $2 million) are trusting, confident and happy with the outcome is extremely remote.
As much as people blast Ticketmaster or scalpers, face it; you can scalp front row tickets to basically any show for what it will likely cost to attend (with travel) this private show -- and only a very few would end up in the front row.
Unless we can get a HUGE price break from Jimmy and he selects the venue, I'm not seeing how we will make this a reality. (And, that price break ain't gonna happen through his management company.)
Aside from that, it's looking as though getting into the middle of this may end up being a thankless job where chaos reigns and hard feelings become the norm vs. friendship and fun. That is a higher price than I would personally want to pay.
Yes, we have a lot of ideas, enthusiasm and skills amongst us but I'm thinking those will be best utilized if channeled in a different direction. Maybe we should just stick to having our usual fun and shipping SOASOAPT around the country.
If somebody can help me see a brighter picture in all of this, I'm willing to give it some more thought.
