Dad Charged With Beating Daughter's Coach

Post by Sam »

WHAT THE BLEEP IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE??? Is it something in the air or water??? Perhaps they hear about it happening in the media??? Perhaps the so called " Rule of Three"? (Okies so he did not shoot the coach, but he did attack him. ) I have no idea what it is causing this. The Dad doing the beating, is also a teacher at another school.

If the guy swung the bat as hard as the coach alledged, it is a miracle that he did not lose his head or suffer skull fracture and other broken bones...or worse injuries.
Maybe that says something about how hard his head is and about aluminum bats...
I did not see attempted murder listed among the charges against the Dad swinging the bat.

Dad Charged With Beating Daughter's Coach

HAMDEN, Conn. (May 18) - A father apparently distraught over his daughter's suspension from a softball team was arrested on a charge of beating her coach with an aluminum bat.

Mark Picard, who teaches art at Notre Dame High School in West Haven, was freed on bond and a court appearance was scheduled for May 31. He was placed on administrative leave from his job after his arrest.

John Crovo, the girl's softball coach at Sacred Heart Academy, where she is a senior, told the New Haven Register that Picard first hit him in the head, then struck him several times when he was on the ground in a fetal position.

"I took a big-time beating," Crovo told the newspaper. "He was swinging for the fences. This guy was trying to kill me."

Crovo said he was treated at a hospital, must wear a neck brace and will be out of work for at least 10 days.

Picard's daughter is the starting first baseman on the team. Sacred Heart Academy officials would not discuss the nature of her suspension, but Hamden police said the girl had skipped a recent game to attend a prom.

Picard's lawyer, Frederick Trotta, told WTNH-TV of New Haven that his client regrets what he did.

"He wishes it never happened and, quite honestly, he is a compassionate human being. This is very much out of context for him," he said.

Crovo did not immediately return a call Wednesday from The Associated Press.

Picard was charged with assault, reckless endangerment and risk of injury to a minor.

Blair Destito, a junior co-captain of the team, said she saw the beating.

"I looked over and our coach is on the ground and the girl's father is beating him with a bat. He was continually hitting him," she said. "The girl ran over and was screaming at her father to stop. Eventually he just stopped."

It been on the news here for the last couple of days. The team in which the coach got beat up isn't going to play there last 2 games. But, will play in the states starting on the 31st. the same day the attacker has his court appearance. I under stand the attackers daughter got suspended a game for going to the prom instead of the game.A whole different issue. Except , if you commit to playing for a team you have to be there. I'm sure she wasn't the only girl from the team going to the prom.

Now i don't coach , referee or umpire. There are to many parents out there like that.

What is MOST disturbing for me is that the father doing the beating is a FREAKING HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER!!! We're talking someone hired to mentor and educate our youth!!! I remember when teaching was a noble profession - now you've got to wonder if the person teaching your kids is a wacko or not these days. Unfortunately this casts a bad shadow on those teachers who are actually good teachers and in their job because they LOVE being around kids - not because of the benefit of all summer off - I realize not all teachers are that way but I do know of some that are.
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.
