Actually, this doesn't surprise me a bit. They always had that smug, self-righteous hypocrites air about them. Of course, you'll never see this story on the tube.
Hank Hill : Just in case I'm incapacitated for some reason, do you know how to start a man's heart with a downed power line?

Bobby: No.

Hank : Well, there's really no wrong way to do it.

that's as hypocritical as the right to lifers refusing to become living doners so someone can be given the gift of life

these f ckers tried to recruit my happy a$$ when I was growing up, all of 10 years old and living on a DAIRY FARM.

Did they not know that I was the "enemy"?

They could kiss my a$$ then, they can kiss it now, too.

Here's another article that supports it.. ran by the Associated Press...
By MATTHEW BARAKAT, Associated Press Writer wrote:
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - It may seem surprising that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals - a group that often comes to the defense of rats - euthanized more than 1,300 cats and dogs last year.

But PETA President Ingrid Newkirk says it was the only humane thing to do. Last year, the Norfolk-based animal-rights group took in 2,103 companion animals. It was able to find homes for 386, and put down 1,325. (Transfers and reclamations by owners accounted for most of the rest of the animals PETA took in.)

"It is a totally rotten business, but sometimes the only kind option for some animals is to put them to sleep forever," Newkirk said. "I don't think a dog living in a cage walking in circles for the rest of its life in a dog prison is a swell thing."

While several dozen shelters in Virginia have adopted a no-kill philosophy, PETA has not.

"It sounds lovely if you're naive," Newkirk said. "We could become a no-kill shelter immediately. It means we wouldn't do as much work." Newkirk said PETA goes into bad neighborhoods and rescues animals that are unadoptable.

"Nobody wants most of the animals that we touch," she said.

PETA is bad news! They do nothing but hurt the efforts of other legitimate animal rescue organizations.

They shut down the New Year's Eve "Possum Drop" in the NC mountains. Each year a possum was trapped in a humane trap, placed in a cage which was hung by ropes from the awning at the local gas station. At the stroke of midnight the possum was lowered slowly and fireworks were lit. After the event, the possum was released back into the wild in the area where he was originally trapped. Yeah, it was a totally red-neck event, but it was funny & harmless. PETA threatened to file suit for "animal cruelty".

I highly recommend Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah - http://www.bestfriends.org. They are truly a no-kill shelter for all kinds of animals. They adopt out as many as they can, but if an animal is old or sick, they keep it and take care of it for the rest of it's life. The work that they do is amazing! They are also working to establish shelters all over the country that have their no-kill philospy. Lots of celebrities give to this worthy charity, but they can always use donations to help care for the animals that cannot care for themselves.
Indecision may or may not be my problem.

Best Friends is a wonderful organization and deserves all the support it can get. Two of my three cats come from there, as does one of my dogs. Utah has a license plate to help support them, which is what is on my Jeep.

My biggest problem (actually, I have many, many problems with PETA, but that's a tirade in and of itself) is that so many of the members, and those who say they represent the organization, are so visibly hypocritical, that's its almost comical. They'll stand in front of you (I've had a couple of unfortunate run ins with this organization over the years because I've done work with animal shelters and whatnot), wearing leather and drinking milk while they tell you the evils of wearing fur and eating meat. They're also linked (at least in this area) to the ELF organization, the ones who have been marked by the government as urban terrorists. Nasty organizations, both of them.

One year while surf fishing down at Cape Hatteras, PETA was actually down on the beach protesting our CRUELTY TO THE FISH!!! We told 'em to get the Hell out of our face (or "something along that line"). Coast Guard (or Park Police?) got them the Hell out of there before THEY got skinned alive!!! 8)
