Newsweek
Is anyone else outraged at what Newsweek did?
The liberal media in this country is so quick to jump on stories that would make the Bush adminsitration look bad that they don't even bother to see if what they are reporting is accurate. They want these stories to be true in the worst way. 14 people died and even if Newsweek did retarct the story, does anyone actually believe the muslim world would believe it?
It also doesn't help our men and women serving abroad.
I thought what Dan Rather did was bad, but all he did was try to influence a national election with his unaccurate reporting. At least people didn't die with his biased reporting.

Newsweek ran a story about US soldiers flushing the Kuraint down the toilet. This created outrage in the Muslim world. 14 people died because of rioting.
Newsweek had one source and it turned not to be a good source. They retracted the story. The damage had already been done.

Left wing, right wing, communist, or martian what Newsweek did was beyond wrong. People lost their lives over shoddy journalism

I agree, however, this was solely motivated by politcs.
I don't think the peole at Newsweek are dumb and apperantly the reporter is very reputable, until know. They knew what they were doing but they just wanted the story too bad and it blew up in their face.
The same thing with Dan Rather; he wanted the story too bad and was blinded by his bias opinions.
The amazing thing is the press is blaming the Bush administartion for it and attacked the press secretary for the White House "telling Newsweek what to do". I think one reporter asked him "who made you the editor of Newsweek?"

This story was absolutely undeniably fabricated. It was fiction and Newsweek should be pulled off the shelves. Human Beings lost their lives because of shoddy reporting. I am outraged that the Newsweek management actually tried to brush this off as an "oops" before the official retraction. I am equally outraged by the behavior of our congress, Senate to be exact, both sides of the aisle. To continue to deny the opportunity for the nominations of 7 Judges is unbelievable. The fillibuster tradition is not granted to congress by any law, just as the "up or down vote for judge nominations" is also not guaranteed by law. What is clear, is that our Senators and Representatives are elected to represent the people. Not to block the representation of the people that elected them. If you don't like a nomination, step up and represent with a no vote, but to fillibuster is like a child on the playground taking his ball and going home cause the game is not going his way. There was not a single nomination of President Clinton's blocked in this manner, and it is time for our spoiled crybaby Senate to step up and represent. Do your job senators!!! Sorry in advance if this creates a hijacked thread. But I am sick and tired and.......

And the fact is that because of the outrage in the Muslim world, American lives have also been put in jeopardy.

I'm up in the air...
one one hand, I can see it happening... given the corruption that has infiltrated some of the prisonercamps... then again... it might not have happened at all... which brings me to Newsweek has a responsibility to the people to NOT run a story that it knows will cause an outrage... because they know people are crazy.

I disagree, and so does Scott McLelland.FFishstick wrote:This story was absolutely undeniably fabricated.
The story was not fabricated; it was based on an unsubstantiated source.
There is a difference.
The Texas ANG Memo story was another example.
Unsubstantiated sources provided tantalizing but spurious information to hungry news outlets.
What do you all think about these sources that "leaked" bad stories?
If they are gov't employees, should they do time?
Whether the stories were true or false makes little difference.
If a rogue cop tells the local hoodlum when the police patrols will be driving past the liquor store, it matters not if his information is true or false.
I disagree with this too.sonofabeach wrote:I guess even if it were true it should not have been reported.
We reported stories that the nineteen hijackers were muslims, mostly Saudis. This enraged muslim mobs who blamed Israel for framing the poor Arabs and targeted America with more hate for pointing the finger at them.
If this kind of reporting wasn't restricted to protect America's reputation and assets overseas, why should the Quran story be different?
