Crazy Navy Flyer wrote:I checked on flights last week, they wanted almost $500 round trip from Atlanta. It's only $80 to Ft Myers and you can catch a boat from there to KW. The Ferry boat I believe has 2 trips a day, not sure but I think it's a 4 hour cruise.

The drive down the Keys is also great, fly into Miami, rent a car and drive.

:o :o :o cheaper to fly in from Boise???

Yeah, 4hours is about right. Our trip was fairly pleasant, they show movies or some PG entertainment on the trip. They also try to ply you with drinks and food, although it's not bad, you're better off resisting to save $$$. Besides, it's a short walk from the KW ferry terminal to the Schooner Wharf Bar :)
...someplace farther south, where the water's warm, the drink's are cold, and I don't know the names of the players...

Remember it is agains Florida State Law to rent a convertible and drive with the top down and the windows up.

Huge tourist bullseye.

If you drive it, here's a couple of things for you to put in your pocket. Dial up 103.1 before you get to the stretch. There will be extensive work starting sometime soon on the Jewfish Creek Bridge. Basically they are taking the drawbridge out and replacing it with a higher fixed structure (a la Card Sound Rd). If traffic is a bear on the stretch, they will announce it. They are great with all day traffic updates throughout the Keys. They are out of Plantation Key and can be picked up right around MIA. If the bridgework is knotting up the traffic, Card Sound Rd. will get you around it and will cost you $1 and another 10 miles.

Slow down, take your time....this isn't the mainland. Kids go to school here and cross the street here just like anywhere else. BTW, FHP in Monroe County just got a new fleet of unmarked black Mercury Mountaineer cruisers....FYI.
