Live Broadcasts on Sirius Can you record them?
I am thinking of getting Sirius to hear the Buffett Live concert broadcasts, but how will we record the shows? Does Sirius play through the computer too? I'm not familiar with Sirius. I know most of us use Total Recorder but what do we use now with Sirius? Please help!!

I plugged my Sirius radio into my computer and can record the same way I record from Radio Margaritaville.

Which Sirius radio do you recommend?
Can you please advise me on what Sirius radio you recommend? I was thinking of getting the one that can be used in the car. Can this one also be plugged into the computer?

Sirius recording
I have a question about listening to Sirius through my computer. Is is true that I can listen to Sirius online or I can hook up a Sirius player to my computer and listen to it that way. I assume that hooking up the Sirius player to the computer will give a better sound because on the Sirius website it says that the sound is 'compressed' to be able to play online.
Please help!!! I want to know all the details before I purchase a Sirius player.

Re: Sirius recording
You can listen to Sirius over the internet. Although i have not compared the sound quality, it seem pretty good to me. If you wanna hook the Sirius up to the computer, that could be an option too.elderflowerapplejuice wrote:I have a question about listening to Sirius through my computer. I would rather run it though my stereo, for the same reasons i don't listen to music via the computer, if I try and do too much something gotta give...
But:
You need to have subscribed to Sirius to listen.
You can Only listen to music stations on-line, No talk, news, etc will come through.

I run Radio Margaritaville through my stereo from a computer, but RM only broadcasts at 32K at the best. Compared to a CD, or even a mediocre 128K speed mp3 (FM radio quality), 32K is pretty crummy. More so when going though the stereo. But hey - 32K is way better than zero K.Gumbo wrote:This should drastically improve the quality of recordings from bootlegs floating around.
My question is... how much better is the Sirius internet or radio feeds?

Sirius online plays at 35k. To my ear it sounds like a step up from any of the Radio Margaritaville streams. Maybe they use better compression technology.
The quality from the Sirius radio is much better. I was nervous when some reviews I read compared it to 128k MP3. I listened to it on headphones and in the car and I think it's better than that. Not CD quality, but really good. I don't hear any of the strange "warbles" that extreme compression causes on the internet streams.
I had also read that the stereo separation wasn't the best. I wasn't sure exactly what that meant until I listened in the car. It does seem like most of the sound comes equally from both speakers and only a small amount is unique to the left and right speakers. This gives the music a slightly flatter sound than a CD.
I think it'll be very important that people who trade recordings indicate exactly which stream they captured the show from because there will be a big difference between either of the online streams and the radio stream.
Bottom line, I can't wait!

One thing that would vastly improve the quality of the shows in circulation is if fans actually recorded the concert at the shows themselves but I don't think I've encountered one Buffett fan that's ever done that. I'm not sure why that is since nearly every other band I've heard live recordings of recorded them at the show.
For recording Radio Margaritaville off of Sirius there should be more options than just using your computer. I'm not sure about Sirius but XM now offers a Polk Audio receiver so you can record their programming, no computer needed.

I don't mind recording right to the computer. Then, I can slice the show up afterwards, convert it to other formats for uplaod, burn CDs, and archive all from the same original file. I though about buying a home kit for my stereo, but I'll be recording most of the time and my CPU is wired to my stereo so if I wanna listen to Sirius throughout the house, I just play it on the computer and listen through (all 3) stereos.

If your set top DVD burner can burn data then you can record the audio off the channel. Then take that disc to the computer and convert it to CD audio. Or record the channel as you would with video, then you would have to rip the disc and convert the audio. Phew.
Or, get a set top CD burner and burn directly to CD audio format from the stereo output. Like in the days of recording radio, and records onto tape.
Or, have a very decent soundcard, not the crap bundled with a PC, and record to the hard drive directly.
Either way I'll sit this tour out before I decide to have another monthly expense. I get Music Choice with my cable and I don't even listen to that.
