Myrtle Beach

Post by rednekkPH »

I'm thinking of making a 2-day stop in Myrtle Beach on my way down to Key West next week. Anyone have any suggestions on where to stay that would be a central location to area attractions (more interested in the area I should stay than actual hotel suggestions). I've never been there, and really don't know much about the area, other than it seems like a decent place to kill a day or 2 and break up the long drive to KW. Thanks.

best places for the best prices are the mystic sea and the southern breeze in south myrtle. you are about 3 miles from broadway at the beach where margaritaville is at. If you need anymore info PM me.

Drive another 1:45 down US 17 to Charleston, and stay anywhere. We don't have a Margaritaville restaurant (just a store), but it's a much more interesting (and beautiful) city. The beaches are less crowded too.
When you're ready to move on, 17 will run you right into I-95 @ Point South.

Thanks, Alan - looks good.

Now, the big question - I'm really only going to have one full day to spend there, what's on the must see/must do list?

Bring the Mrs to the Gay Dolphin, it's got tourist stuff and collectibles.
Go to Murrell's Inlet to eat (try the Hot Fish Club, they have Buffett bands there), go fishing at Capt. Dick's or off any of the piers around (I like Garden City's, it's quieter). Hope that gets you started Frank. Have a good time!

Definitely stick to Murrell's Inlet and Garden City Beach as much as you can, much quieter, more laid back (they actually have locals there). The best she-crab soup I've ever had (and I've had a lot) is at the Inlet Crab House in Murrell's Inlet. Great Beach food at Sam's Corner at the foot of the Garden City Beach pier (fried hot dogs and a helluva jalapeno cheddar burger). I guess you gotta go to Cheeseburger in Paradise and Margaritaville (Cuban meatloaf sandwich), too. Have fun, and don't forget to check out the House of Blues schedule.

No dobut about it at all, Crocodile Rocks at Broadway At The Beach. If you have time that evening to go out. They open around 8ish and if you love a dueling piano bar this place is terrific. Went on our honeymoon and stayed a good 5 hours there. If you appreicate dirty songs like the Department Store song and My Kitty Cat you will have fun.

Don't go to Charleston for a beach...you'll spend all day trying to find one...for the money you can't beat Myrtle and I've been to Cape Cod all the way down to Key West.

i second palmettoson's recommendation that you continue on to charleston..... and there's LOTS of beach here....and a Margaritaville, and a one of a kind downtown to stroll around. There's harbor tours, and carriage tours too. Myrtle Beach is "Big Hotel Boulevard" . If you like to golf, or minature golf, or shop outlet malls, you may be happy with myrtle beach. There's an aquarium there, as well as in Charleston(much bigger than Myrtle Beach's), and an IMAX theater in both cities as well. There is a lovely place, Brookgreen Gardens, ( a sculpture garden) just south of Myrtle Beach that would take the greater part of a day to see. You may want to go to Pawley's Island, also just south of Myrtle Beach, for a more laid back atmosphere than Myrtle, if you just want to hang and not do much.... Hope this is helpful. PM me if you need (or want) more info....
