Jen?
I wear a new brand "2 Clear"...wore biomedics for years before that...I know a lot of people wear the Acuvue..but they just didn't fit my eyes right and were not comfortable....I had to try until I found some that fit well and I never know they're in there...
I also wear mono vision....Distance in the R eye, and close up in L eye...and I love them!
Nice having periphreal vision again...
I take them out at night , every night and wear my glasses...and I also change them every 3 weeks...
I like my glasses, but I love my contacts.... My Dr was great too..he kept giving me samples until I found some that were right for my eyes...and comfortable.....
it took me a while when I first started wearing them, putting them in and taking them out...Now I can drive down the road and change them...
and have learned to always keep a bottle of rewetting drops with me...

I know someone that was advised against lasik because if you ever need to have say a catarac removal later you can't. Or that's at least what she told me. Don't know how true it is as I also know people who have had lasik and love it
never heard of that one. and the doc's who do it out here seem to be pretty good about being honest with the pluses / minuses and potential side effects.
There are a few people for whom lasik surgery is not recommended; your eye doctor can tell you if it's OK for you. There might be some reason for individuals to
choose to avoid it, but I have not heard the cataract concern before. Most of the people I have met who had it done are glad they did it. Probably fewer than 5% of the cases I heard about were "troublesome" in some way or another. (You can now get "insurance" or a "guarantee" from your surgeon in case you need a revision as you get older.)
If you don't like eye surgery to corect visual acuity, disposable extended wear contact lenses seem to be well-tolerated by most.
Good luck (from a fellow myopic)

I went for Lasik surgery last year (April/May). When the doctor cut the corneal flap on my right eye, the flap was not centered properly. So he put the flap back in place and I had to wait six months for it to heal.
I had surgery again in February and this time it was successful. I am very happy with the results; however, I now need to use reading glasses.
My distance vision is better than 20/20.
This morning I had my three-month post-op exam and all is well.

I've been wearing contacts since I was in high school. I think the ones I have now are the accuvue2. I've had a difficult time with other brands, even have had problems getting the newer accuvues to fit. I wear mine for a month and then pitch them, but I don't wear them overnight unless I have no choice, I always take them out. EVERY single opthamologist I've seen has recommended against wearing them overnight. I had an eye infection when I first got contacts and I never want to go thru that again. I figure I can spare the 30 seconds it takes to pop them in and out.
I'm looking into Lasik, just need to get other stuff taken care of first.

I wear contacts, but i have the bad habit of not taken them out except every couple of months to change them.i may take out once in awhile if i''m sick.i''m the poster child of what not to do with contacts.the funny thing is all my eye exams come out great.maybe adjust the strength of the contact.
my brother had lasik and loved it

I love contacts. I wore them a bit much for a while though, almost everyday/all day for about 7 years, then I need to stop wearing them for over a year, I put them in only every now and then. Now I'm back to wearing them 4 days a week usually. I like em better than glasses.

I'm considering contacts again. I tried to wear them 20 years ago, and they made my corneas swell, so I had to give up. But I know there have been a lot of changes and improvements, and I'm sick of wearing glasses when in rains and when I'm out on the water.
So.... what are your experiences, good, bad, or indifferent? Disposables? Extended wear? Take 'em out every evening?
Not looking to change my eye color or anything exotic... Probably even wear my glasses a lot of the time.... But looking for input.
Thanks!!
I wore hard lenses back in the Stone Age. BLECH! I have MUCHO astigmatism. I started wearing soft, disposable lenses about three years ago. The technology has advanced LIGHT YEARS. They still don't make 'em so I can wear them overnight, but that'll come soon enough. DO IT!!

I could never wear contacts, but I had lasik three years ago and it is absolutely wonderful!
My hubby has gas permeable lenses. (he's not allowed to wear the soft ones at work)
His eyes are bad enough that the surgeon who did my lasik told him that he wasn't a good candidate.....

Have worn glasses since I was 9.
I don't like the way I look without glasses.
Besides.. I'm a big baby.

I have a hard time just putting eye drops in my eye, let alone a piece of glass or plastic.

I got glasses when I was five. My son got them when he was four.
I don't mind putting the lenses in or taking them out.....it's just when a piece of my EYE comes with it that I hate!

(see above post - recurrent corneal erosion)

Don't let your dr. talk you into gas permeable lenses. They are extremely uncomfortable. I was talked into them because of my astigmatism and the promise that gas perm lenses would correct the problem better than soft. Hundreds of dollars later and they are sitting in my medicine cabinet gathering dust. I will give soft lenses a try, but I'm used to my glasses and I'm not that desperate to get rid of them.

I wore gas perms and there advantages to a harder lens over a soft one for astigmatism but then I was used to the hard plastic lenses so the adjustment for me was easy. You just have to "break" them in exactly the way the doctor tells you to.
I've got an astigmatism but I'm borderline having to wear soft torque lenses. I've worn torque before and they aren't bad but regular lenses are cheeper.

My hubby likes his gas permeable lenses....

I guess it's a very individual thing....
