As with many high profile people, Jimmy manages to keep the family out of the press as much as possible. However, I wonder about Jane. Other than she hails from South Carolina and married Jimmy in 1977, I really know nothing about her.
Every once in a while you hear about her at a charity function..... but I was just curious about the woman who lives with our favorite Pirate.
Anyone have any info?

I saw a picture of them together at one one of the awards shows last year, she's not bad lookin'.
She's gotten co-writing credit on some of the songs that JB has recorded.
Yep. This is where I want to stop too.

Let's see what I can toss in here...there's some stuff in APLA50, Tales from Margaritavision, 60 minutes uncut.....here are some things that come to mind given these reasonably good sources:
Jimmy and Jane were introduced by Larry Groovy Gray (Jane's former college roommate) at a phone booth outside of The Chart Room bar in KW when she was on Spring Break.
Jimmy refers to Jane as his best friend and "soul mate". He's wowed how her versatility ranges from cooking up a peach cobbler for hungry sailors in rough seas to comfortably being the focus of conversation at a high-profile socialite event.
Jimmy says she's like Mr. Spock -- a very logical and smart thinker. He respects and values strong, intelligent women and considers Jane to be one.
Jane did some modeling and was an aspiring actress in the 70's (appeared in the "Come Monday" and "Who's the Blonde Stranger?" videos).
Jane left Jimmy in the early-80's when she tired of drugs and hard partying. They were separated for ~8 years before re-uniting in 1991(?). (Jimmy quote: "I got 8 years off for bad behavior.") They remained close friends during the separation.
Jane prefers to stay "behind the scenes".
Jane is ~5 years younger than Jimmy.
In her book, Marshall Chapman (also a Southerner) describes Jane as "impeccable".
She must also enjoy travel as she used to sail all over with Jimmy and has traveled much of the world with him (and their kids), as well.
My personal impressions...
It's been said that creative geniuses are "high maintenance" and I would suppose Jimmy at least somewhat falls into that category. As people are often products of their environment and relationships, Jane seems to masterfully and lovingly keep Jimmy and his almost boundless energy focused in positive and constructive ways without stiffling his creative spirit and "Schoolboy Heart". Like Jimmy, I'd bet Jane is very intelligent. Although we (fans) may not directly see or know much about Jane, their relationship has been a foundation for the Jimmy (whose music and performance) we've come to admire. Jane may well be -- at least partially -- the wizard behind the curtain.

here's my story . .
we went to M'Ville N/O after the Coastal Confessions 2004 . . .
Jimmy and " group " came in and were all sitting in the "Crow's Nest " . .
Jane and Jimmy were side by side . . .
and the thing I noticed most was Jane had her hand on Jimmy's leg the whole time . .it appeared they were on a first date . . Jane looking into Jimmy's eyes and Jimmy looking at his " first love " . .
it was precious . . .
Jimmy loves Jane . .. and the feeling is mutual . . it's obvious . .
sigh . .

Looks kinda like Beverly D’Angelotdparrothead wrote:Is that Jimmy with Jane in the gatefold of the SOASOAS album? It looks kinda like her. I'm not sure who any of the others are in that picture though.
So how do you come out with a song in 1983 (on OPH) about something that happened 5 years later? I know Jimmy is talented, but I didn’t know he had THAT much talent!Desdamona wrote:Distantly in Love written after Jimmy filed for divorce in 1988
I think that book made a boo-boo.

Hey, why do you think I attributed it to the book?Parrot Monkey wrote:So do you come out with a song in 1983 (on OPH) about something that happened 5 years later? I think that book made a boo-boo.
And probably why Jimmy never "approved" that biography?
Mr. Eng is quite "encyclopedic"... mostly about the recording
industry. It gets to be a bit much after a while.
informative, full of trivia, but who knows how much is correct?

Yep, just refering to Jimmy and Jane.Desdamona wrote:I assume you mean besides the Jimmy/Margie divorce... right?Quiet and Shy wrote:That's also the first reference I've ever seen to a divorce filing.
Also, I hadn't realized Jane was in the "Fruitcakes" video; I thought she had gone "behind the scenes" by then.
