JoAnn - For a nice easy decoration we spread seashells (with sand works well) on both the food table and sitting tables. Also had citronella candles on the tables. Tiki torches, balloons. Had stuff to eat that could just be made and sat out in chafing dishes (hot) and you can place the cold stuff in bowls with ice around them. Don't forget the little umbrella covers to keep the bugs out of the food! We had Hawaiian music playing in the background also (mixed with Buffett).

Anyone have a Jerk Chicken recipe to feed 100?
Tiki - you are near many places that have them already roasted, still on the spick. That's what we did!

How handy are your husbands?

This might be a little bit of work, but could you or your friend get your husbands to build you one of those stand-up characters with holes cut out where people stand behind and put their faces in the holes?

With a sheet of MDF, a jigsaw and little bit of quick painting, you create:

A pirate and a parrot
A surfer dude and chick holding their surfboards
Hula girls

etc., etc.,

You could get all of your guests to stand behind it and pose for pictures. As the night goes on and the guests become more drunk, the photos are funnier!

Oh, on a different note, for decorations could you find a totem pole?

Easily made! Go to a carpet place and get some empty rolls, paint and wah-la!

Great ideas. We have a party scheduled for July 2 and have most of the basics.

Our menu will be Cheeseburgers (what else!) with all the proper trimmings and since people always ask "what can I bring" we are encouraging them to bring their favorite "Island or Tropical" Hours d'overours ... or however that word is spelled.

Thanks for the reminder about limbo and hula hoops. Should be good for a laugh or 10.

One question, has anyone seen the "Original TIKI Brand" lighting anywhere? We bought only two sets last year (end of season) and would really like to add more, but can't seem to find them anywhere this year. No luck on finding a web site either. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

And keep those good ideas coming!!

One of my favorites to serve is pineapple chunks soaked in coconut rum. A clear winner with my crowd.
hey, PA PAR8 HED......how long before the party starts do you soak the pineapple chunks? I am gonna try it this Sat. night.....how many cans of chunks (uhh...that doesn't sound right) do you need to serve about 20 heavy drinkers? 8)

When I make mine I use fresh pineapple that I cut into chunks. We have soaked it any where from a couple of hours before hand to over night. When you are done eating the pineapple it is great to pour the used rum into shot glasses and shoot it.

I have never made mine with canned pineapple, but I don't see why it won't. Also if you used canned and you leave in some of the light syrup you will have more to shoot at the end. If I get a chance I will try and make some this weekend with canned and I will let you know.

Haven't seen it... what store did you get them at last year?

It's a non-alcoholic party... will have to get Near Beer...

NOT!!  Hoping 1/2 barrel's enough... possibly 100 adults, and will also have "boat drinks"... will we run out of beer? (never did a keg before)

When we had a Hairy Buffalo Party, we used fresh and canned fruit, but the canned really didn't soak up much. The fresh really soaks it up!
