Slaves in Washington, D. C.

Post by lookingat40 »

No, I don't watch Oprah but I did see today that on her show that there are modern day slaves, young girls from Africa that are purchased and enslaved in affluent D. C....It looked like most of the owners were blacks...they had to be because if they were white every media outlet in the world would be reporting it...Also, in the 1850's a slave cost $1000 bucks...$40,000 in modern dollars, but you can purchase 2 18-year old males for $40 on the Ivory Coast...doesn't Africa ever stop exporting slavery???

not the same thing. Those mexicans come here willingly, so they can send money back to their families. Working for p***-poor wages in America is still more money they can make in Mexico.

The unfortunate reality is that it's that poor of a continent... :(

`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'
