btw I won't be asking collector prices or anything near them.
Me? I do have the least of anyone who posted in this thread I think. But first I must ask you: You sure you wanna do that?

Parrot Monkey wrote:I sure wish I did do, but my venues are limited you see as I’m not an ebayer, not yet at least. I’m collecting LPs from many artists at once, and I’ve had better luck in the Elton John, Billy Joel and James Taylor departments. Actually, where as I started out with none a year ago I now only need about 4 more Billy Joel and JT LPs. Guess it’s harder to find Jimmy down in Florida as not many people want to give up their collections.
What Billy Joel are you looking for? I have some vinyl stored away.
My biggest fear is that when I die, my wife will sell all my Buffett stuff for what I said I paid for it!

I've been giving it much thought. My turntable needs repairs. I don't see myself buying a new one, I've got some gems that I will need to have converted to CD but after that why keep em? The others I will go after collectors price on them but the Jimmy has got to go to a Parrothead and I won't gouge a fellow Parrothead.

Believe it or not, unless you have something incredibly rare, vinyl really doesn't fetch all that much. For instance I know a lot of people that have the Lynyrd Skynyrd flame cover edition of Street Surviors that think they're sitting on a goldmine when in reality it only brings around $35 from collectors. The albums that are worth a lot may not always be what you first think of as rarities. Sometimes all it takes is a misprinted serial number or some other oddity to push up the price. I say this because a few years ago I was pricing my parents vinyl collection and found out that most of what they had wasn't worth very much at all. It's that needle in the haystack that brings the big bucks.

Yes, I learned that quick. When I first realized how much more art and stuff was with the Buffett vinyl LPs, I decided I would want to collect the records some day. Until I actually started buying them I was under the impression that each one was going to cost a significant amount and that this hobby would be a large investment for me. Now, I’m collecting records not only of Jimmy’s but many other favorites too. Once and a while you will pay over $10 if it’s a first or rare pressing (i.e. a Sgt. Pepper’s that has the original inner sleeve and cutout sheet and it’s the UK version, can go for $60 in good condition).
For Jimmy LPs, Down To Earth and Off To See the Lizard are the exceptions to the low price. Down to Earth being his first album which so few copies were pressed, and Off to See the Lizard being the same deal, but with the reason being vinyl starting to be phased out in 1989.

I know what you are saying, I was not implying that I had anything worth major money, But I have a few gems that can bring in 30 to 40 bucks. None of the Buffett stuff I have would fit in that catagory either.
Probably the most rare thing I have is a U2 Rattle and Hum that I won on a radio contest it's the promotional edition and was not sold to the public.
And I am not sure that is worth much.

Sometimes the radio promo editions are worth more because they're rarer, sometimes they're not. Hopefully a local record dealer can help you in that regard. Unfortunately our local record dealer went out of business a year or so ago.

We've still got a few in the Seattle area.

Our main local record dealer sold all his records to some collector, but I was able to find one about 10 minutes from my house. They already know me as "The Jimmy Buffett Guy" and I've only been there 3 or 4 times.

I still need:
Turnstiles
Songs from the Attic
Klolept (or whatever the one that’s live in Russia and has the red cover is called)
Storm Front
River of Dreams (being released in 1993, I can’t be sure if a vinyl LP even exists)
I vinyl trading thread! What a great way to help people out with their collections! I can’t believe nobody thought of this before!
I hereby declare this thread the official vinyl trading thread of BN!
I encourage everyone to post their vinyl needs, as I will keep them in mind next time I’m at my local record shop. I recall there being more copies of CILCIA (with gatefold and custom inner sleeve!) last time I was there.
