It loses something over the radio, but in person, I thought it was *awesome*....... The cheering and whistling seemed in keeping with a "yeah, we are AMERICANS, and this is our NATIONAL ANTHEM!!!" sentiment. Most people around me were singing until the last few notes.
It blew me away, and I'm really glad Jimmy asked Jake to open with it.

Okay then, if it doesn't bother you, it doesn't bother me! I'm okay with it now!

I also am not caring much for Radio Margaritaville on Sirius. I really hadn't listened much to RM on the internet, but I was a HUGE fan of the "Vacation" channel on Sirius that RM replaced. I think Human Numan, the former programmer of "Vacation" did a far better job with a tropical format than Steve H. does at RM. I don't know, maybe all this soft classic rock stuff is what some people want, but not me. I want tropical/island music. The old "Vacation" played all the independent trop/rock artists like Eric Stone, Mark Mulligan, Don Middlebrook and Living Soul, Rick Steffen, Brent Burns, Coconut Bob, Kevin Mulvenna, etc. And not just one song once a day, but they played tons of their stuff and played them all day long. Also, they played tons of great Calypso/steel drum music from groups like Toucans Steel Drum Band, Steel Drums of Trinidad, and Steelasophical, and that has completely vanished now as well. Also, lots of Hawaiian artists were played hourly and that is gone too. I don't know why RM won't play this stuff. Do they not consider the indie trop/rock artists to be "legitimate" enough or do they see them as competition to Buffett himself?
Sirius already has other channels that play these singersongwriter/classic rock artists. Heck, listen to "the Bridge" (channel 10). It is a whole channel focused on soft classic rock/singer songwriters. We don't need to hear the same stuff on Radio Margaritaville.
I don't know. Maybe it's just me, but I've been a big Buffett fan for years, and I am NOT AT ALL interested in hearing Van Morrison, Bonnie Raitt, Crosby Stills and Nash, Tom Petty, etc. on RM. Instead, give me Don Middlebrook, Eric Stone, Mark Mulligan, Steelasophical, Pomai and Loeka, etc. I listened to the old "Vacation" channel for a tropical/island feel. And every single song they played had that vibe or feel or connection. It was a mix of trop/rock, Calypso, Hawaiian, and Reggae, and that was all it was. There was zero singersongwriter/classic rock and that's the way I liked it.
Anyway, I love the Buffett Buffet hours and the live concerts of course, but the rest of the time, Radio Margaritaville is a poor excuse and can't hold a candle to the old Vacation channel.

Amen BRH, I agree with you totally. I miss Vacation. RM should have been the same programming with more Buffett.

I'm wondering if part of the deal for getting RM on Sirius was to remove the vacation channel -- sort of a format non-compete. It's too bad if that's the case because although there is some overlap between the two, there seem to be some clear differences, as well. Personally, I'd rather look at these two as being complimentary vs. competitive.
On "The Star Spangled Banner" opening, I was absolutely mesmerized by Jake's performance -- goosebumps, absolutely yes! Sadly, many did behave badly given the song, much less the performance quality.

I have heard that they just reshuffled the station order, and that Vacation didn't go away, just ended up not next door to RM

While I haven't tuned in,(I don't use Live365) Jimmy Dreamz radio may be a good alternate for the net.

If you want to change it...call them.

I am a new Sirius subscriber and haven't listened to RM in a while. I do notice a programming difference...but if you don't like what they're playing either call them or email to express that opinion. If they hear it enough perhaps they'll listen.
