Lately I've been listeneing to Matisyahu. He is a Hasidic Jew who is a highly talented reggae singer. I first saw him on the Jimmy Kimmel show and now I cant put the cd down. He looks like weird al yankovic in the video for amish paradise (that remake of the coolio song). If you get a chance check him out and let me know what you think. Listen to the song close my eyes.

ive seen him live and i got to meet him (and his whole band), he's very good. He got really p*** though because he did a show where i go to college and the sound system kept on screwing up and he almost just left right there and then. He's got a lot of talent and i like the message behind his songs, but i cant see him getting much commercial sucess . . he'll probably get a cult following though

Well until the last few years some guy named Jimmy Buffett pretty much just had a cult following. Most people outside of us parrotheads had no clue what he even looked like until 5'oclock somewhere was released. So, I guess not being commerical isnt such a bad thing.

no, but i dont think he'll get a Jimmy Buffett sized cult following, not even like a natalie merchant sized cult following . . . i think that he gets attention because he's hasidic and you can really only take that image so far . . . if he was black then he'd just be your usual reggae artist. His music is good but personally i dont think its anything to write home about when you look at the entire reggae genre.

Hey ragtopw
If you are into reggae you should go to Northwest World Reggae Festival. It is a 3 day festival July 22-24th. It is held at a campground outside of Portland OR horningshideout.com. I have been there for weekend festivals and they are a great time. If you sre interested check out the website & click onto the event. if you do go you have to Clinton Fearon & the Boogie Brown Band. They are awesome I always see them @ bars in downtown Seattle & they have a huge following.
