Musically I believe - but what do I know ... not much on anything12vmanRick wrote:First, thanks to Lee and Stizz and others that are close to the band for answering this. I know I have been curious about it but never asked because I didn't want someone to think I wanted to know how much they made.
One question here. When they receive royalties from song writing does that include musically too or just lyrically ?
PS.. I thought the band got paid by the show previously. Not a salary.

Songwriting is generally defined as melody and lyrics. Generally if two writers work together and one writes the melody (music) while the other comes up with the lyrics, they'll split the royalties 50/50, although they can come up with any number they want.12vmanRick wrote:One question here. Now that I didn't know but I was more asking along the lines of say. Mac and Jimmy collaborate on a song and they need the talented Amy Lee to put the horns to the mix and a little Ralph and Robert magic.. do the others get royalties on the musical portion ?Cubbie Bear wrote:ASCAP & BMI cracked down on recorded music big time in the 80's. But any juke box company worth a dang builds in the fee to your split of the coinage. The ones that get into trouble are the people who pick up a box at an auction or Sam's Club and do it themselves. They DO get the knock on the door.
Minor League baseball was slammed hard in about '85 and some clubs got huge "royalty" bills for years of playing recorded music. The national Association of Professional Baseball Leagues worked it out and we all started paying a yearly fee there after
Generally no... even if they were to work out cool musical parts it would be more "arrangement" than songwriting, and that doesn't get royalties.12vmanRick wrote:

Songwriting is the core words and melody. What you put around them for instrumentation and even musical parts is all arrangement.
