The Sirius feed is compressed.
Yeah, but it's not compressed to the extent of the RM internet feed. I think Sirius has their own codecs with their own algorithms and everything.

Correct. Just pointing out the incorrect statement that Sirius is not compressed.
Of course I know Sirius is better then the net feeds. But I went in knowing it's not heaven. I love it for the stuff that FM radio was best known for years ago. Especially the free form channel 24. Vin Scelsa baby!!
Pretty close idea what's playing on any giving channel right now.

i always get a kick out of these kind of arguments / tests. about 20 years ago audio magazine did a double blind test between tube and transistor amps. NOT one audiophile correctly identified the tube vs. the transistor amps. yet everyone of the so called experts swore they could hear the "warmth" of the tube amps that they all deemed lacking from from transistors...

Gonna tahe a flyer and say sample 1 is RM, and sample 2 is Sirius.
Just a hunch.

plus anyone over the age of about 10 doesn't have the ears left to hear the differences....

Right. The general public does not care or is unable to hear the difference. The best thing when buying audio and video toys is to know what the specs mean so you know when the seller or manufacturer is blowing smoke up your butt. It happens with speakers alot.

Note to self: Go buy new speakers.

The Sirius feed is compressed. Just like digital video (using MPEG 4 or MPEG2), Sirius is compressed so the bandwidth can be allocated accordingly. Listen to any of the talk channels for an example.
You are not getting fidelity with the music channels. It's been compared to mp3 like at 64k to 300k. It's all in one's ears. But just don't fool yourself into thinking you are reaching CD quality. Just be aware what you are paying for and understand going in.
All in all, the audio sounds okay FM mod in my home systems. Down the road, better compression and investment into the plant will allow for the sound quality to improve such as proper stereo sep and treb adjustments. While not fit to play classical music, it'll do for the concerts where we are just happy in hearing it live rather then hearing all frequencies without distortion.
Hey, I was just going to say that

I run the audio out from my computer through an FM stereo transmitter then tune my stereo receiver to its frequency. It actually sounds better then either of the samples and I can record the concert at the same time.
Regarding the samples, sample 1 sounded kind of tinny compared to sample 2.
Update: Stardate 050626.2238
I purchased a Clarion Sirius unit on the 25th and listened to the tonight’s live show by running it through my stereo via the built in FM transmitter. The sound quality was quite good, much better then the sample posted here. So far I'm quite happy with the Clarion's performance.

Thanks for all of your feedback and participation here! I learned a lot and it seems that there is still some to debate... the fact remains though Sirius does sound better no matter how it's edited.
I will pick a random post from above later next week and PM regarding sending a copy of a show of their source choice. (I apologize I haven't done this sooner but time has gotten away from me)
My next venture is to convert some of the shows to Dolby Digital 5.1 Nero has some great tools for this although I'm running into some problems. ( I have successfully burned 2 channel Dolby Digital but not all 5.1) Any suggestions?
Thanks again!
