Friday Musings - Theme For Next Album???

Post by SomeGuyNamedDan »

I've been listening quite freqently to the replay of the Nissan show from last Wednesday (BTW, big thanks go out to those who maintain the servebeer.com ftp site). Before the second encore, Tripping Billies, Jimmy says something to the effect of ". . .I've been talking to Dave Matthews awhile on some other things. . ." Considering this, and his playing of the Jack Johnson song, The Horizon Has Been Defeated, does anyone else think that he may be cooking up another "duet" type album but this time with more "mainstream" instead of country artists???

Santana did a similar thing with the first "duet" album being Supernatural, and the second being the less-successful Shaman.

Just a thought.

On a side note, I've hit quite a milestone, my 100th post
. . .and it only took me 3 1/2 years!!!

I hope not. Those Santana albums, in my opinion, contain some of the worst crap he's ever recorded. If JB does another duet album with people like Jack Johnson and Dave Matthews I'd probably pass on it. I don't think they bring anything to the table.

I would be really suprised to see another duet album come down the pipeline anytime soon. I think if the Dave Matthews, Jack Johnson thing will influence the next album, it might be the sound of it. I can see Jimmy and Dave collaborating on some writing stuff though.

It would be an interesting CD and I would probably buy it, but I think I would rather just have a Jimmy CD next time.

Just to play devil's advocate...
I wouldn't be if it is another duet album. His last album was his first duet album and lo and behold it reached #1 on the charts, a first for JB. Why not do it again if its with more mainstream artists, then maybe it will be even more successful. There has to be some drive within him "to be the best" and if he does it by drawing in other artists' fans to do it then by all means do it. I'll still buy it. License to Chill was a great album, although his best songs were the ones that he wrote himself and did by himself. Just my .02

Sometimes more than others,
we see who and what and where we are,
I'm just a one man band,
With my feet in the sand,
Tonight I just need my guitar

LOL...So true...I caught crap when I suggested this a few months ago...but an island theme cd with music from Jim Morris, Gene Mitchell, Eric Stone and others would be great...I can hear the groans already, but remember these songs would be songs you'd have never heard in the first place...so you could sit back and let Jimmy have the credit...I mean when I hear "Biloxi", thats a Buffett song...and so is "Coast of Marseille" and many others...even though they were covers of "obscure" songs.
