James Taylor 6/25 Concert: Mini-Review/Set-List

JT was alive and rockin' tonight, he put on a great concert. He slowed down songs like Carolina in My Mind and Sweet Baby James, but rocked out on Country Road, How Sweet It Is, and Steamroller. Also did a great rendition of Summertime Blues and covered a Dixie Chicks (yuck) song titled You Gotta Dance or something like that. His voice hasn't changed a bit, he's great on the guitar and was quite the entertainer, very engaging. Signed a lot of autographs and shook a lot of hands after the intermission before playing again, and gave the story of Have Mercy on the Frozen Man before playing it. Also paid some tribute to Ray Charles in Set 1 with two songs he (JT) wrote and Ray had performed.
Overall an awesome concert, I'd recommend it to everybody. Very laid back and friendly atmosphere, and even though I didn't know all the songs I had a blast. Here's an attempt at recreating the set list:
Set 1
1.) Secret O Life
2.) Summer's Here
3.) Your Smiling Face
4.) The Water is Wide
5.) Nothin Like a Hundred Miles
6.) Everybody Has the Blues
7.) Slap Leather
8.) On the Fourth of July
9.) Handy Man
10.) Mexico
11.) Fire and Rain
Set 2
12.) Caroline, I Love You
13.) Sunny Skies
14.) You Gotta Dance (Dixie Chicks)
15.) Carolina in my Mind
16.) Have Mercy on the Frozen Man
17.) Sweet Baby James
18.) Never Die Young
19.) Country Road
20.) How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)
21.) Steamroller
Encores
22.) Up On the Roof
23.) Summertime Blues
24.) You Can Close Your Eyes

That was my first James Taylor show last night, and I loved it. Although for a moment when he came out I thought he looked like Buffett on the screen

The 2 songs he does that Ray Charles had covered are "Everybody Has The Blues" and "Nothing Like A Hundred Miles". Both of these songs are on James' IN THE POCKET album.
I can't wait to see him this summer because this is the best Set of Songs I have seen him do in many years, a perfect blend of old and new.
From reading some other reviews of this years shows some of the songs you had listed as ? were The Water Is Wide, Slap Leather, On the Fourth Of July. The 1st song of the second set is Caroline, I Love You and the last song is You Can Close Your Eyes.

I thought that to myself, too. He looked like a taller Bubba with a pointier nose
Where were your seats last night? I'd say it was definitely sold out, the lawn was packed.

Thanks, I'll fix the set list up top. I think a couple are out of order, too.

Center lawn. Went in about 630 pm. I was so early, I was able to get the free lawn chairs.
First time I've been there since the 90's. Read the article in how the venue wants to be consumer friendly again and I was pleased. Would be nice if Buffett played there again. Lots of trees to keep the lot cool.

Thanks for the review, Titkitom. I am going to see JT the end of the month in Charlotte. I have been a fan for over 30years. Glad to know he still has it. I haven't been to a concert of his in about 10 years.
