I was at our local country music festival this weekend enjoying the likes of Dierks Bentley, Brooks and Dunn, Big and Rich ect. when they were showing a list of possible names for next years festival. The main name mentioned was Jimmy Buffett, who would be there for the grand opening of the new amplatheater and grounds in Oshkosh. I just figured I'd throw that out there. At least they spelled his name right on the jumbotron.

yeah... that could happen. I wouldn't gamble on that tho unless they want to really bankrupt themselves in a bidding war between the facility at Alpine and themselves.

Oh I know. My ph friends and I figured that it probably wouldn't happen either, however we agreed it would be cool if he played in our hometown. This festival does have quite the budget however, so who knows.

My brother told me of the rumor also. He works for a small radio station near Oshkosh. That would be great as he always gets free tickets from the station!!

I wish you luck but is the site large enough to hold the crowd needed for them to make money. There was a lot of talk the last couple of years that the Illinois State Fair was trying to get him but so far no go. With 2 shows at Tinley and one at Alpine normally another show either at your site or the State Fair would seem unlikely unless he cut one of the other venues.

The Country USA festival is moving to a new 270 acre site just southwest of Oshkosh. Camping is allowed right on site which would allow for a new tailgating experience. I know this past year, average atendence for the 5 nights was in the 30,000+ range per night. Bigger acts obvously draw more people. The main setback for this in my opinion would be the fact that a lot of the people in attendence wouln't necessarly be parrotheads since most tickets purchased are for the entire week. Who knows though, maybe things would change if they brought in Buffett.

well, if he were to play the venue separate from the goat-roper acts, it might work.

For the festival it is usually a ticket that gets you in for all 5 days, however they have individual day tickets as well. I suppose it would be possible for him to play the new venue as a grand opening at a time seperate from the country festival. I think management of Country USA may be overlooking how big of a draw Buffett actually is. Who knows though, stranger things have happened.
