Bring a week's worth of clothes; you'll be doing laundry.

Work clothes.

Casual clothes.

One dress-up outfit.

Comfortable outfit for the plane (running suit, or the like).

There are a couple other packing threads here in OT that can probably help you with some ideas.

I assume you have been given info on what you'll have access to as far as laundry etc.

Has your company sent others to India before? It seems to me that they would be your best source for info, having done it already. Just a thought.

be sure to check your airline's baggage policy. international flights have different rules than domestic flights, but the airlines are pretty hard ass about the size and weight of your luggage because they can and will charge you fees for exceeding their published limits.

oh... if you have limit + 5 lbs in one bag and limit - 5 lbs in another, they will still charge you for an overweight bag, or you can repack them at the counter to get the overweight bag under the limit.... seen it many times....

That's when the corporate charge comes in handy :D I'm bringing two suit cases and a back pack.

Take a camera or get a good camera and takes lots of photos, There power plugs maybe different from what you are used to in the States. Find power adapters if needed. For such as a hairdryer or a boombox or tv or radio or clock or battery charger for your camera or your computer or whatever you might need to plug in.

India is full of history, that goes back thousands of years.(of course you knew that I am sure. 8)
Here is a site I found while looking up something else for you:
"Notes and Photos from Travels in India"
http://www.well.com/~rhenley/IndiaO.htm

Meanwhile I highly suggest that you go over the safet and security portion of this site and call the toll free numbers if any questions:

Here is just a suggesstion and thought....and it might be a bad one, that could possibly cause some customs people to think, it might be drugs of some sort, and you have enough hassles as it is...

Here goes, get a smal vial or capsule or something and get a tiny bit of beach sand or perhaps a tiny bit of dirt/soil from the lawn of a JB concert or at a tiny bit of American soil from around your home or wherever. Keep it with you. >>>>ALWAYS REMEMBER TO PROTECT ANY AND ALL ITEMS OF VALUE!<<<<<

At times when realization of how far away you are from what you always knew...it can really be of a large comfort to know that you can hold and see the soil.

You might could find a little necklace type thing that will hold it. I don't think they are that exspensive, they certainly don't weigh much and you can always hold it.

Becareful and besafe over there and until your return. Remember to watch your Six ( that means watchand protect your back) I take it you have read sites about travel there. I am not sure where you are actually going in India, but be prepared for "CULTURE SHOCK" and remember, you are no longer in America as any traveler should remember when in another country. You are going to meet and see many new exciting things, events, history and people. Unfortunately you are also going to see things that will most likely shock you as well. That is part of the experience though and I think overall you will have a most pleasant and enjoyable time there!

Probably most things will be available there, but alot won't be, like simple little items that might only be available in your current local area, that you will want. So consider a few of those as well...the ones that fit your personal taste.
Best of luck with it! And have a safe and enjoyable time.Come back with fond and pleasant memories and lots of pics and good stories!

I might ask the guy at the store about what to take. He and his wife, are very friendly and polite.

When I go to Key West, this is how I pack, try this. 2-4 pair of shorts, 5-7 pair of underwear, a few shirts and 5 pair of flip flops. If you run out go buy stuff. Traveling light works best for me. You can always find a laundry-mat. In Key West Old Town Laundry at 517 Truman Ave., the best thing about doing laundry in K.W. is you can get a nice big frozen drink on the way. :D Have a great time.
