Actually the topic of discussion, at least the one I chose to respond too, was Dsil's point that most of the people who watched Live 8 weren't REM fans. A point, I might add, that you claimed was false but have still failed to disprove.Jahfin wrote:That you are but the topic of discussion isn't whether MTV/VH1 are allowed to make money off of such an event, it's been about Stipe supposedly using his make up to draw attention to himself.LIPH wrote:I think I've already stated, more than once, that I never said anything about what Michael Stipe was wearing. I have proved it. Maybe you didn't choose to look at the R.E.M. Timeline web site that shows their tour schedule dating back to the beginning of their career which illustrates beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are well known not just in the U.S. but throughout the world. This is reflected by international and domestic sales figures for their last record that can be found at REMhq. By the same token how about holding DsilCaribe to the same standards and have him prove that "most of the people who watched Live 8 weren't REM fans". You won't be able to do it number one because you are biased and number two because there are no facts to support it. Same as his ludcrious comment that Stipe was trying to draw attention away from the event by wearing make up.LIPH wrote:Actually the topic of discussion, at least the one I chose to respond too, was Dsil's point that most of the people who watched Live 8 weren't REM fans. Going another direction, and honestly not looking for an argument, just an honest response from Jahfin. You chalk it up to theatrics, yet you have stated in the past that you wish Jimmy would get away from the theatrics in concert, and just play his music. Do you hold the same thoughts for REM, or are you ok with the Cat Burglar makeup on tour and at the Live 8 thing? (And I guess past tours too, whatever the significance of the previous makeup has been.)DsilCaribe wrote:***- what is up with Michael Stipes blue paint?? does that have any significance??
For the record, I, like many of the viewers, would have no idea why he was blue, and I wonder if it might have been better to play "unmasked" for this event.

How exactly does any of that information prove that people who watched Live 8 are REM fans? It's a huge leap of logic to say because they're well known in countries other than the US, that they've sold a lot of records over the years and that they've toured all over the world, people who watched a concert on TV were fans of theirs. There were, what, probably 30 or 40 acts (maybe more) at the various Live 8 events. Maybe the majority of the people who watched it were fans of Kanye West or the Black Eyed Peas or U2 or Paul McCartney or Faith Hill or Youssou N'Dour or Green Day or Will Smith or Elton John or ... Do I have to go on or do you understand why I think Dsil's statement is much more likely to be true than yours?Jahfin wrote:I have proved it. Maybe you didn't choose to look at the R.E.M. I'm not holding Dsil to the same standards because he made a statement and you told him he should do some research before making a "false statement". If you know for a fact that it's false you should have evidence to back that up. You haven't come forth with any. Maybe you should just be more precise in your choice of language in the future.
