He controlled the whole field, except for Valverde, and just "tore the infernal mountain apart." "Carnage" is the only word to describe today's stage, as my favorite commentator put it.
I think we know who's winning Numero Siete this year 8) 8) 8)

I'm watching the replay.

This ride will go down in the history books.

Valverde is only 25 years old. Lance is 33. And Lance was only 1/2 bike behind at the top.

The story here is not who won the flipping stage.

The story here is the flipping carnage/bodies/destruction Lance left down the mountain. He took HUGE chunks out of the serious overall contenders!!!!

Overall

1. Lance Armstrong (USA), Discovery Channel
2. Mickael Rasmussen (Dk), Rabobank, 00:38
3. Ivan Basso (I), CSC, 02:40
4. Christophe Moreau (F), Credit Agricole, 02:42
5. Alejandro Valverde (Sp), Illes Balears, 03:16
6. Levi Leipheimer (USA), Gerolsteiner, 03:58
7. Francisco Mancebo (Sp), Illes Balears, 04:00
8. Jan Ullrich (G), T-Mobile, 04:02
9. Andréas Klöden (G), T-Mobile, 04:16
10. Floyd Landis (USA), Phonak, 04:16

Who's your Daddy???

Great ride by the DISCO boys...what about that Big George??? Stayed with 'em all the way over Col de la Madeleine, Col du Télégraphe and the Col du Galibier. Way to ride, George!!!

Vino was fabulous....and Botero hung tough to get 2nd.

Can't figure why Lance sat up and let Moreau win the extra points to move from 4th to 3rd? Puzzling.

Should be a good day for Team Discovery tomorrow!!!

Almost seemed like a walk in the park for Lance today. I'd say that was becuase the TEAM DISCO stuck with him the whole way. Looked very strong, especially after the "infernal" pace that was seen yesterday. BTW, Jens Voight has been eliminated. Funny how things change so quickly sometimes.

TT: Any idea why LA sat up at the end for Moreau???? Did you think that odd or was it just me??? I would have thought LA needed the time bonus against Rasmussen.

What am I missing?

This is from Graham Watson's daily report. What a tribute to Hincapie....

Hincapie enjoys what is virtually a brotherly relationship with Lance, and he is determined to provide, one last time, that extra tender loving care to a teamate and friend who he values so much.

I saw that look in his eyes today as he bent his back to the cause and dragged Lance and the group almost up the entire ascent of the Galibier. And even when he was dropped in the last two-kilometres, he gritted his teeth and regained contact on the long and rapid descent, taking his place again at the front of the Discovery train that reduced Vinokourov's lead even further on the fast run-in to Briancon.

In the absence of Viatcheslav Ekimov, and the defection of Landis to Phonak, there is even more reliance on Hincapie to keep Lance out of trouble and keep the Austinite a happy man. George can amuse Lance more than anyone else, but it is his physical presence that Lance most appreciates, I'm sure.

There's precious little time for them to have a laugh and a chat on this race, but words are not necessary when Lance tucks in behind gentle George - he's been there for almost seven Tours de France now, and has been very much the spiritual backbone of the team's success.
