We are heading to the Clearwater / Tampa area on 7/23, staying in Indian Rocks Beach. We're already planning on taking the keets to Busch Gardens/Islands of Adventure, and are also taking in a couple of Red Sox/Devil Rays games.

Any other recommendations of places to go, things to see while we're there?? Kind of interested in boat trips, parasailing, etc. Recommendations on restaurants would also be appreciated.

Dr. Beach recently named Ft. Desoto Parks north beach America's best for 2005. I've been to their campground, and the beach looked incredible. Plus there's an old mortar battery accesible for some historical value. Just do a net search for Ft Desoto beach. Or for the ultimate boat trip head down to Ft. Myers and take the ferry to Key West. That would take a decent $$ amount though...

Fort Desota Park is AWESOME and worth the time to go to.
Also drive south on Gulf Blvd. To John's Pass.

There are several of us who live in the area... and I know there was a thread about it once...naming all our suggestions. Maybe someone with more savvy can find it.

SInce you are staying in IRB, head north on Gulf Blvd to Clearwater Beach. About a 15 min drive. There you will find parasailing, Frenchy's Rockaway Grill http://www.frenchysonline.com/ (for a fins up dining experience) and the whitest sand you have ever seen!
