John Hiatt is playing a free show in San Jose at Plaza de Ceasar Chavez, just a few blocks from the HP "Shark Tank" Pavillion. Thursday, yeah today, July 14th. Show is set to start at 5:30 p.m. He should be playing a lot of his new stuff. Promises to be a great show.

What an awesome show. The North Misssissippi Allstars are the real deal, almost make you forget about the Goners. No wonder John Hiatt likes playing with them. This was one of the tightest sounding bands I have heard live since Dire Straights stopped touring. There were no muddy or washed out sounding rythms, breaks or transistions like those that tend to creep into the music of the coral reefers during live shows. Every note came through crystal clear. John Hiatt and the North Mississippi Allstars rocked. This was a classic John Hiatt show made better by the addition of the NMA as a backup band. He played just short of two hours without any break. OK he stepped off stage for 30 seconds between encore sets. He played 3 or 4 songs off his new Album "Masters of Disaster". A few of them were a bit slow for my taste, but I'm sure they will grow on me. The bluesy undertones woven into all the new material makes them a pleasure to listen to. John Hiatt is the ultimate storyteller/songwriter. I have seen John Hiatt over 40 times now, and each show is better than the last. I find myself enjoying and looking forward to a John Hiatt show just as much as I do a Buffett show. That is saying a whole lot!!! There are still 6 weeks left on this tour, if you are in San Diego don't miss the opportunity to catch one hell of a show. I will be at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga CA to catch him on the last stop of his tour. I can't wait. Did I mention that this San Jose show was a free show. It was part of the Concert in the Park free concert series in San Jose. I was only expecting to get about 1 - 1 1/4 hours of music out of Hiatt, instead we were treated to a two hour show. Awesome. I know John Hiatt has visited this board a few times. If you see this John, Thank you for the decades of music, and especially this last show in San Jose. There is a Tiki Bar in our backyard that is always open. When in NorCal you have an open invite.
