Beluga caviar, the good stuff, is to die for. The cheaper stuff runs from just ok to nasty. So those of you who have never eaten really good Beluga, dont pass judgement based on the lesser stuff. I have had Iranian Beluga (from the same waters as Russian, just a different port) that was smuggled in from Canada where it is legal. The Russian Osetra can be ok but not always. I understand there is an American company producing good Osetra but I havent tried it.

I have tried it on numerous occasions.. parties, fancy restaurants, weddings, rich friends houses.... so I assume I have had different kinds.... and while I didnt "hurl"... it just wasnt as good as say boiled shrimp, oysters, crab dip or the ole standby spinach dip! I cannot imagine forking out actual cash to buy it!

Mr. Mojito will tell you that caviar is the only expensive thing I don't care for.

I love sushi and raw oysters.

I tried the sushi with the salmon eggs but didn't like them because of their "burst" when biting.

I think the caviar would be different and would try it if it was supposed to be the "good stuff"

I have had the Osetra , ordered from Russ & Daughters...(the American)and it is to die for...
But then, I love caviar...Like he said there is some very bad caviar out there..But Beluga..just wonderful! I order from Russ & Daughters ..and I buy it for myself as a treat on occasion and just have that for dinner....
