RM on Sirius - has it gotten better?
After listening to RM a little more in the past few weeks, I think it has turned the corner a little bit. Sounds much more like the old RM, with a pretty good mix of music.

They seem to be trying, but it's still not as good as it was pre Sirius.
Time will tell, I heard Feats at five is coming back. and Savana's program was OK last weekend, I didn't hear it this weekend.
I still miss the Reefer Madness hour, and vintage vinyl

I think it has improved somewhat but there are still way too many songs/artists that already have a niche somewhere else on Sirius. There is still not nearly enough of the Trop Rock/Sunny Jim/Jim Morris/Hugo Duarte/Scott Kirby etc for my taste.

I never did listen to RM before but i used to listen to the Vacation-Channel on Sirius. I miss all the buffettesque music they used to play. I love the Concert replays (the older concerts are great) and the Buffett Buffet and that large amount of Buffett, especially to stuff you don't hear too much anymore...
I know i don't get here quite often enough

I had a pretty intense day at work today...and had RM on via the Sirius website...seemed to be a lot of the Trop Rock guys on today...seems they come through in waves and not mixed in to the regular programing with any consistency.Brown Eyed Girl wrote:Feats at Five IS back.Delaneysdad wrote:They seem to be trying, but it's still not as good as it was pre Sirius.

Seems to be less of the 10,000 Maniacs, Elvis, etc that was on initially too. Overall, I still enjoy the RM/Sirius programming more than I did the RM internet programming. Definately enjoy being able to listen to RM during my commute!

I'll have to start listening to Feats at Five. After all, I was on my way home from a Little Feat concert when I got the phone call from Heather.Brown Eyed Girl wrote:Feats at Five IS back.Delaneysdad wrote:They seem to be trying, but it's still not as good as it was pre Sirius.

I agree, a little more Jim Morris and a little less Steve Wynnewood, Steely Dan, etc. would be better.Brown Eyed Girl wrote: I think it has improved somewhat but there are still way too many songs/artists that already have a niche somewhere else on Sirius. Re: RM on Sirius - has it gotten better?
While listening at work today I attempted to keep up with the playlist on RM. I started listening shortly before the Concert replay.
Shortly before the concert replay was a "Sunny Jim" White song…but I missed the name. This is probably 90% of the airplay from 9 am - 3 pm PST today:
Buffett Concert Replay - Columbus, OH 11-14-01
Little Feat - Let It Roll
Greenidge/Utley - Soltar
Warren Zevon - Back In The High Life Again
The Loving Spoonful - You Didn't Have To Be So Nice
Dick Dale - Let's Go Trippin'
Jimmy Buffett - Fruitcakes
Willie Nelson & Toots Hibbert - I'm A Worried Man
Jim Mayer - I Am A 3 Legged Dog
Van Morrison - Green Mansions
UB40 - Breakfast In Bed
Lyle Lovett - What Do You Do
The Band - The Weight
Jimmy Buffett - Last Mango In Paris
Joni Mitchell - You Turn Me On I'm A Radio
Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys - Night Tide
Jimmy Buffett - Trip Around The Sun
Bob Marley & The Wailers - Trenchtown Rock
(went to lunch, missed a few)
Byron Lee and The Dragonaires - Calypso Classic
UB40 - Red Red Wine
Aretha Franklin - Think
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - Country Girl
Bonnie Rait - Under The Falling Sky
Jimmy Buffett - Lone Palm
El Gran Combo - Que Me Lo Den En Vida
Bruce Springsteen - It's Hard To Be A Saint In The City
Neville Brothers - A Change Is Gonna Come
The Beach Boys - Good Timin'
Santana - Everybody's Everything
Jimmy Buffett - Migration
Elvis Presley - Hawaiian Sunset
Garth Brooks - Two Pina Coladas
John Prine - Crazy As A Loon
Fred Neil - The Dolphins
Jimmy Buffett - I Love The Now
The Greatful Dead - Uncle John's Band
Steel Pulse - Franklin's Tower
Gypsy Kings - Bomboleo
Tim Finn - Hit The Ground Running
Little Feat - Borderline Blues
Jimmy Buffett - Brahma Fear
Toots And The Maytals/Rahzel & Shaggy - Bam Bam
Jackson Browne - In The Shape Of A Heart
James Taylor - Only One
James Taylor - Traffic Jam
Jimmy Cliff - Sunshine In The Music
Jimmy Buffett - Blue Guitar
Jerry Jeff Walker - Hill Country Rain
Buffett Buffet started.
A pretty good mix...but not much of the Trop Rock singer/songwriters today. Also seems like Buffett is getting more airplay than before.

If I could program RM, I'd lean a little more towards the trop rock. This would be my breakdown:
30% Buffett
15% Reggae/Caribbean/Latin
15% Trop Rock/Coral Reefers
10% Country (KC, JJW, etc.)
10% Similar rock/genre artists (James Taylor, Little Feat, Van Morrison, etc.)
5% Surf/summer
5% Soul/oldies/beach
5% classic rock
5% JB's favorites/rarities
The playlist above (while only a sample) is pretty close, but is way too light on Buffett and Trop Rock and heavy on traditional rock artists.

I like your train of thought! Yesterday, I heard Scott Kirby several times, today Sunny Jim a couple. It kinda seems like they hit on a particular artist a day at a time. I will make good use of my Gov't time and track another playlist next week.PA PAR8 HED wrote:If I could program RM, I'd lean a little more towards the trop rock. This would be my breakdown:
