And so versatile too, Breeze...wristlet, anklet, drinkie skirt...
And of course they come with this warning: Don't lose your skirt!
There was one with your name on it if you'd made it to the Tampa show...

Guess I'll have to save one.

Well Mol, I was going to go to the party store to see what I could find, then I remembered what I've brought to the last 3 or so tailgates and decided to just put my money towards the skirts. Thanks to Kitty they've become my tailgate favor of choice.

I finally found some time for the write-up to accompany the palm tree from springparrot.
The purpose is to explain the symbolism of the gift to someone who has probably never heard of BuffettNews.
Like everything else I've done with SOASOAPT, I am open to discussion.
If you have any changes or additions, please send them to me via PM.
I'll email the the final version to springparrot tomorrow night;

Dear Soldiers,
Buffettnews.com (BN) is an online community of Jimmy Buffett fans from across America and around the world. Although the website is not affiliated with Jimmy Buffett or Margaritaville.com, the discussion board is one of the most active on the web space surrounding Jimmy Buffett and his music.
We appreciate the sacrifices you are making for our freedom. We hope that Buffettfest Baghdad will take your mind off of things, if only for a few hours. After all, that is largely the appeal of Buffett's music for many people.
Enclosed you will find a 6-foot tall inflatable palm tree. This gift represents a 3-year old tradition, which is explained below.
Because it is a nationwide community, there are always people from BN at a Buffett show. In fact, there are often more than 20 BN’ers at a given concert. In order to strengthen the bonds that tie the community together, a tradition was born in 2003.
That year, a group of regulars bought an inflatable palm tree to become the official mascot for BN gatherings. They signed the tree and sent it on the tour. Being from Texas, they named this tree “Lone Star Palm” or LSP – the granddaddy of them all. LSP collected signatures at concerts around the country, and a new precedent was set when Jimmy Buffett added his.
In 2004, the tradition continued with “Junior Mint Palm”, or JMP. This tree made it to over a dozen concerts, and was signed by Jimmy Buffett in June.
This year's tree is third in the line and was named "Son Of A Son Of A Palm Tree”, or SOASOAPT. Jimmy Buffett signed this tree in January, and the members of the Coral Reefer Band signed it in February. SOASOAPT has made it to 18 Buffett performances through July, including Hawaii in April. People from all over the country have volunteered to take SOASOAPT to every remaining concert on the current schedule.
While the enclosed tree is not an official mascot, it does represent the community of BN. We hope that you will sign this tree as we have ours, so that it comes to represent you too.
Gratefully yours,
The Buffettnews community

crash_davis7 wrote:Hi everyone. My name is John and with the help of my hometown club, PHIndy, I am the one organizing the 1st Annual Baghdad Buffet Fest here in the Green Zone of Baghdad.
Quiet and Shy directed me to this board. to day the least, the support and comments have been overwhelming to read. I think this will be a truly great, great event and provide a lot of fun for the troops here. Who knows - it might even cool down to 110.
If you want information regarding shipping, needed items, t-shirts, shipping deadlines, etc., please contact PHIndy directly. They have all the information on my planning.
Also, please observe all of your charter rules. I wouldn't want anyone or any club to find themselves in a pickle over trying to help me here. Your generosity is beyond description and I can assure you will be very, very much appreciated by the guys I see every day.
Tons of pictures will be taken and forwarded from the event so don't worry about that. Trust me! I am so proud to be a Parrothead
You guys are the best but please help my coordination efforts by keeping in touch with PHIndy.
Looking back, I couldn't find the poem that was written called Buffettfest in Baghdad but the print out has already been seen by a few here and our plans are to use blow it up to poster size touse all over the zone if it's ok with you.
Again, thanks to you all.
Hey CrashD7!!

Glad you found us and thanks so much for stopping by. I hope things are going well for you over there and as I've said before, I so much admire and appreciate the work you are doing for our troops. It's wonderful to be able to lend a hand to your efforts in a very small way. I'll continue working to keep the communication lines running smoothly. All the best to you and the others.
When you have a chance, stop back and let us know how things are going!

I think that sums it up very nicely, great job, FP!!
Do you think we should add, maybe in parenthesis, what JB song each tree's name refers to? We all know, but it may not make sense to the casual or non-fan. Just my $.02
Again, well done!!!

Four Play, great job!!!!
Just one recommendation.... Might address it to "Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Coast Guardsmen, and Civilians"
There are a lot more than just soldiers (US Army) in Baghdad....

little thing, can I get you to add a comma at the very end before "too"?
Again, great job!!
