Or perhaps as dates for the soldiers? I'm sure they get lonely.

This is an awesome idea. Can we start a BN Thread to send messages and thanks to the troops? We could get hundreds of posts to show our support!!!
Maybe even post some pictures of our support-ph style of course. And for those attending the Cincinatti show, they could add a little patriotic flair to their tailgate parties and send the pictures/videos across to the troops as a follow up. Wish I were going to Cincy to take part/lead by example

We could also do a toast to the troops and drink a cold one stateside in their honor

Also, 9/19 is National Talk Like a Pirate Day :pirate: www.talklikeapirate.com It won't be anywhere as cool as Buffettfest, but yet another way to keep things light on the heels of Buffettfest

Hey Four Play, any chance the SOASOAPT can make a detour to Bagdad to rally the troops???
the only thing I am worried about is this re: Shipping the Palm over:

On tour, he travels with a member of the board who is responsible both for him, as well as for getting him on to the next person for the shows. I am a little leery of shipping SOASOAPT off to Baghdad and possibly losing him to any one of a dozen different situations. Shipping a clone over, sure. Shipping one over for the guys to sign and decorate the joint, sure.

Call me foolish, but unless there is a BN member over there to shepherd him around, I can't see the people over there having the same interest and concern for him.

I support our troops 100 percent, but I agree with Ringling here. There is accountability in having the tree assigned only to regular BN'rs. There is also accountability in having other BN members present to serve as witnesses.

Can anyone say for sure where the first 2 trees ended up? I have no idea, so that's why I took on the challenge this year. Call me paranoid, but I don't want to take any chances on losing SOASOAPT.

Having said all that - is the PH club member (or anyone else who's going) registered on BN?

I like the idea of sending (deploying? :D ) SOASOAPT's, say, sibling..... That tree can STAY in Baghdad, for morale.

SGT SOASOAPT2, Special Forces..... :P

Stealth SOASOAPT.....

A clone sounds like a good idea as it will probably be more meaningful to them to have it signed by "their own" just as SOASOAPT is more meaningful to us (BNers) as it is signed by "our own".

I've suggested JJ check this place out, but I don't know whether he's visited yet or not. I'll mention it again. I think he'd enjoy reading this thread, if nothing else. :D

Well, not exactly. Although I'm a registered/regular and brought this forward to the group, I'm not the one who's there (Iraq). It's a guy from our PHINdy PHC who's working for the troops as a civilian. I don't know whether he's ever visited this site, to be honest (but I'm trying....).

I too have been scarce as of late, but this sounds like a great event! Kudos to you Q&S, and to the PHindy club, for helping put it together.

Do you have deadlines as to when you have to ship it? And are you looking for ideas only, or are you accepting donations of any sort?

I'd be happy to send you some Juicyfruit, and maybe burn a concert cd or 2... including Alpine 2002 where Tamara (president of PHindy at the time) and I shared the stage with Jimmy!! (Is she still around?)

Let me know, and a big Phins Up for your efforts!! :D

Oooo...you're good!!! Yes, Tamara's still around and leading the club.

We already have a volunteer to get and send over a new tree. (Thank you Springparrot! :D :D ) I don't know the deadline for sending stuff...I've asked the question but don't have the reply on that. The fact that the date has been pushed back to mid-Sept. will help, though.

I know. I was just saying (albeit badly) that even if they are registered here as a member, I would be a little hesistant to turn over something like The Palm to a relative stranger with very little time registered; and very few posts.

I really like the idea of shipping a clone over for the guys to sign and keep in the ready room/ward room/mess.
