Buffett Fest gets a mention...pretty cool...
Bringing 'Paradise' to the troops
Some serious "changes in latitudes" inspired the first annual Baghdad Buffett Fest, slated for Sept. 16 and 17 -- in Iraq.
The festival idea came from John Jackson of Indianapolis, who is in the Green Zone as a civilian contractor in the morale, welfare and recreation division of Kellogg, Brown and Root, a subsidiary of Halliburton.
Jackson, 54, is a member of PHINdy, the Indianapolis Parrot Head club. He set out to create some "changes in attitudes" for fellow troops stationed in Iraq.
More than 600 troops will attend the festival at Liberty Pool and Camp Prosperity, both in Iraq's Green Zone.
PHINdy is a member of a network of more than 200 Jimmy Buffett fan clubs. Donated items from club members across America include leis, cozies, T-shirts, decorations, door prizes and CDs. Buffett's Margaritaville restaurants are sending merchandise from this summer's Buffett tour for the troops. The armed services have agreed to provide cheeseburgers, hot dogs and nonalcoholic beer. (The Green Zone is dry.)
"My escapism is far less important than for those I am helping to escape -- the troops," Jackson wrote in an e-mail to the Sun-Times earlier this week. "If it gives them an evening of some fun and laughter, the rewards for myself, PHINdy and all the others will be beyond description."

It was a pleasure and a hell of an evening
Truly was our night to win
But the authorities insist on my leaving
Take care my American friend

I'll be listening extra hard Wednesday night. Who knows? Maybe Jimmy will give a shout out to the PHIndy Club and maybe BN for this!
Keep up the great work Crash (and BN!)

Stars and Stripes sounds great!! You're doing good work, Crash!
By the way Crash, as things are winding down towards the Buffettfest dates, and as you've had a chance to see what is headed your way...don't be afraid to let us know if there's something else we can do to help (like you did with the logo and banner...as you know, we'll do what we can) e.g. tape or string to hang decorations, plastic bags to hold giveaways or prizes, or whatever else we might not have thought of that will make the event easier for you and more successful for the troops!

I had emailed the press release to Dave Hoekstra, because he has written some great Buffett articles for the Sun Times in recent years. I like that he did some additional follow up with crash for the article, instead of just copying the release verbatim.
Now if he would only get me the Wrigleyville doings for Sunday that I asked for!

It was neat to see Buffettfest mentioned in the article...(although the editing made the abrupt ending a bit goofy)...it just added to the feel of the whole thing...that it's not all just about show...but also about heart.
