my new JB discovery . . . .

Post by DeactiveCarib »

. . . is the album "Don't Stop The Carnival". What a great album!! :D

i can't say I was a parrothead in 1998, all i owned was SYKBH, so i clearly didn't buy this album when it came out. When i later became a full-fledged parrothead, I started buying all of his albums but one of the very few that i never bought was DSTCarnival, because for the most part i hate show tunes and i figured this would pretty much fall into that category.

Well, i finally decided to get this album because i had a few bucks to burn, and it's just so amazing! The really cool thing is that i had never heard any of the songs on this album before buying it, and now it might just be one of my favorites. Did JB write all of these songs?? If so, what a great job! It's sort of similar to the rest of his 90's stuff but even more tropical and he sounds happier and more relaxed.

Buying this album for me was like finding hidden treasure. I never even used to think of this album when thinking of JB, i basically acted like it didn't exist, but now it might just be one of my favorites

I also really like how he uses the other Coral Reefers and gives them a bigger role than any other album

what are your views/opinions on DSTCarnival???

p.s., who is the main female voice?? is it Tina??

I love it, too!!
It really is one of my favorites and I don't listen to it near enough.

Nadirah has a part--I need to go look about Tina.

"Time to go Home" was my favorite song off that one, Tina and Jimmy sang it together at the end of the show that year.

Great book!! Makes the cd that much more enjoyable.
I especially like "A Thousand Steps to Nowhere" and "Island Fever" and Mac singing "Hipolyte's Habitat"
And I agree, most of the cd is happy and upbeat.

It's a great CD!! Typical clever, fun, creative Buffett. :D :D I agree that reading the book first is the best way to go.

I haven't listened to it in a couple of years but I did put it on my iPod. Maybe I'll listen to it on the train on the way home tonight.
