Buffettfest in Bagdad


Ladies and Gentlemen, you are the tops
You riflemen, drivers, mechanics and cops
The dudes in the Green Zone and outside the wire
Our praises for you couldn’t get any higher

AD, Reservist, and National Guard
You make it look easy when the going gets hard
You deserve a vacation on a tropical beach
But this September weekend, that’s just out of reach

So we’ll send you a party, with our favorite band
You already have palm trees, sunshine, and sand.
The idea is “make a resort of your own”
Plop into a lawn-chair and unplug the phone

Just think of the ocean, the waves and bikinis
(OK, we’ll say “board shorts” for you Admin Weenies)
If you can’t hoist a cold one, you can do it in spirit
We’ll give you a call-out (if you listen you’ll hear it)

Your friends are all waiting for your safe return
In the meantime here’s something everybody should learn
Politicians and diplomats throw up their hands
And Bad Guys start drawing their lines in the sands

We counted our treasure and checked our resources
And handed the job to the U.S. Armed Forces
We can all count on you guys to finish the work
Tho things will get broken and people get hurt
