No HOF

Since there seemed to be much debate on the HOF before, I bet Palmero takes the fall here and doesn't get in, and rightfully so...if only brittle Barry tried to play this year we might have seen his fall too.
I wouldn't be suprised if Barry never played again.

Steroids=bat speed along with power and stamina.
In my opinion, bat speed is the most important attribute of a hitter.
I think he would have definately been in before this but know he won't make it.
I think he'll wind up being 1 of 3 or 4 players with 3,000 hits and 600 HRs.

I say no.
I said no before and I haven't changed my mind.
The HOF cannot be just for offensive players. He is not a great defensive player and only reason why he won the Gold Glove is because he played 10 games at first and then DH for the rest of the year (I can't remember the year) and he didn't have any errors. He won the gold glove for First.
other than ozzie Smith or pitchers. The HOF is all about numbers and not the glove.
Before he was in, i don't care how many years you play 3,000 hits and 500 hr's is still pretty good. He stayed healthy and consistent through out his career.I don't see where the argument is that he isn't worthy.
now if he's guilty , which i almost have a hard time believing for the simple fact is. He went in front of Congress, and i don't think he would be stupid enough to lie under oath.but, if he is guilty, i would have to think about it and how many players on ballots or in the HOF are also guilty of steroid use which was very popular in the 80's.

jonesbeach10 wrote:The thing with that argument about hand-eye coordination is that most everyone who plays professional baseball from single-A to the bigs has great eye-hand coordination. There are bery few position players who make it far because of their fielding. Power often separates a career minor-leaguer from a superstar in the bigs. To some I guess, the 'roids get them over that hump and get them the $$$. Remember the minimum salary is 300K per year and the average is over $2 million.
I find it ironic that after Canseco published his book, most all of the players mentioned in the book raised a red flag and adamently denied it. However, you'd think some of them might sue Canseco for basically hurting their rep...if it was really false. However, no one has done that. One of those players is Bret Boone. He is having a horrible year at the plate. He was already released once and may be again before the year is out. You can tell that he is one of those players who "is off the 'roids."
However, as we've seen in Jason Giambi this past month, hard work can bring you back to MLB form.
Uhh...I mean the day. He was released by the Twins.

This is right up there with Bill Clinton looking into the camera shaking his finger at America "I did not have sex with that girl"
Palmeiro you are an ass.
"I think it's our obligation to take a stance against steroids and to make a positive out of this whole thing," said Orioles 1B Rafael Palmeiro.

never happen. They have no way of knowing if he was on roids when he made the statement. He could just say I started taking them after my testimony.
Or even say that he didn't know that the stuff he was taking included the banned substances.

on the arrest, probably not. That is something he is going to have to wake up in the middle of the nights and soul-search over. As for the majority of the 90s stars who mysteriously put on 40 pounds of muscle as they got older (like Bonds), it's pretty simple: we can't prove you cheated, but we can treat you like cancer and excise you.
And before anyone says anything: if you can keep Rose out for his off-field transgressions, or let Cobb in with his on-field transgressions, you can certainly keep a bunch of guys with suspect numbers out to the point they have to go in on the legacy ballot. The person who raised the point about Canseco's book being false resulting in lawsuits for defamation is right. Asterisk the hell out of the record book if you want to keep them, but for me, the span from about 1988-2004, the majority of records don't count.

Now I have heard that Bonds is going to sit out the rest of the year. Coincindence? I think not.

I could be wrong but I believe he is still eligiable to be drug tested even though he is not playing.

if Pete Rose can't get in the HOF, neither should the steroid users

it's a shame that they will elect Palmerio, Sosa, Bonds etc into the Hall of Fame and yet Jim Rice will always be on the outside looking in

what hurt Rice was he wasn't media friendly. If you see him on NESN he comes accross as the nicest guy in the world.
Bonds isn't media friendly and there are others that are in. Rice should be there. I think next year he will. It's a very week class next year.

If Bonds gets in (with or without the steriods question) then Rice MUST get in.

700+ home runs will get him in , no matter how much of a jerk he is.
